This includes 176,530 applications for freshman admission and 41,120 transfer applications. These are unduplicated counts of undergraduate applications received systemwide and include both residents and nonresidents. • Applications for freshman admission saw a slight decline systemwide of 3.0 percent (or 5,388 applications). California freshman applicants decreased by 3.4 percent overall, while applications from domestic nonresident and international freshmen decreased by 1.7 percent and 2.7 percent respectively. • Applications from California Community College students increased by about 1 percent, to 35,178 for fall 2019. • Chicano/Latino applicants make up the largest proportion of the pools of California freshmen and California Community College students: 37.7 percent of California freshmen and 32.0 percent of domestic community college transfers. • Applications from underrepresented groups increased as a proportion of the California resident freshman applicant pool, from 43.9 percent last year to 44.4 percent this year. California Community College transfer applicants from underrepresented groups remained flat at about 39 percent of domestic transfer students. • The proportion of freshman with low family income increased to 42 percent of applicants from 40 percent last year. California Community College transfers with low family income remained flat at 54 percent of applicants. Notes: The systemwide totals used above and in the attached tables are preliminary and “unduplicated,” meaning that each student is counted only once, even if he/she applied to multiple campuses. As a result, the systemwide totals are not the sum of the individual campus counts. Data are current as of January 7, 2019. 1.29.2019 Undergraduate Admissions admission.universityofcalifornia.edu 1 Preliminary Data Findings Data are Subject to Change Table 1.1 University of California FRESHMAN Applications by Campus and Residency Fall 2017, 2018 and 2019 Universitywide (unduplicated counts) Berkeley Davis Irvine Los Angeles Merced Riverside San Diego Santa Barbara Santa Cruz California Out-of-State International Total California Out-of-State International Total California Out-of-State International Total California Out-of-State International Total California Out-of-State International Total California Out-of-State International Total California Out-of-State International Total California Out-of-State International Total California Out-of-State International Total California Out-of-State International Total Number of Applications 2017 2018 111,725 119,908 32,735 33,467 27,186 28,543 171,646 181,918 49,249 51,893 20,305 20,599 15,462 17,088 85,016 89,580 51,374 56,701 5,587 5,760 13,946 15,518 70,907 77,979 63,097 71,240 6,007 6,272 15,956 17,502 85,060 95,014 63,480 71,519 20,860 22,731 17,841 19,445 102,181 113,695 20,075 22,291 515 404 1,258 1,168 21,848 23,863 38,629 43,934 1,205 1,237 3,602 3,654 43,436 48,825 59,081 65,716 11,434 12,402 17,941 19,773 88,456 97,891 58,465 66,630 8,768 9,594 16,070 14,557 81,790 92,294 42,692 45889 3,470 3579 6,345 6809 52,507 56,277 2019 115,862 32,895 27,773 176,530 50,123 20,193 17,037 87,353 55,339 6,180 16,544 78,063 70,540 6,913 18,103 95,556 69,558 23,023 18,685 111,266 22,614 485 1,373 24,472 43,117 1,351 4,752 49,220 66,041 13,176 19,895 99,112 65,784 10,535 17,104 93,423 44,354 3,519 7,660 55,533 SOURCE: University of California Office of the President, Student Affairs, Admissions, 01/05/17, 01/09/18 and 01/07/19.
