l-Octanesulfonic acid, 3,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,8-tridecafluoro- (CAS # 27619-97-2) in Methanol (67-56-1)
This letter is to inform you of the results of an acute oral toxicity study in rats with the test mixture referenced
above.
The test mixture was administered by gastric intubation, after dilution in olive oil, to 4 groups of 5 male and 5
female SD-derived rats at dose levels of 500, 1000,2000, or 4000 mg/kg of body weight. The rats were observed
during the first hour after dosing and then for 14 days after dosing. Clinical signs and mortality were recorded
and the oral LD50 was calculated.
Mortality at 500, 1000, 2000, and 4000 mg/kg of body weight was 0%, 10%, 50% and 100%, respectively.
Deaths occurred between days 2 and 7 after dosing. Clinical signs noted at 4000 mg/kg included prostration,
piloerection and reddish coloration of fur; at 2000 mg/kg included lethargy and reddish coloration of the fur; at
1000 mg/kg included lethargy and reddish coloration of the fur; and at 500 mg/kg all rats appeared normal.
The oral LD50 was calculated to be 1871 mg/kg of body weight.
This information is submitted in accordance with current guidance issued by EPA indicating EPA's interpretation
of Section 8(e) of the Toxic Substances Control Act or, where it is not clear that reporting criteria have been met,
it is submitted as a precautionary measure and because it is information in which EPA may have an interest.
