Nicky Connor Billy Briggs Sent Via E-Mail Interim Director of Health & Social Care 03451 555555 Ext 444112 Nickyconnor@nhs.net Our Ref: 2019.072.NHS Date: 9 September 2019 Dear Billy FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST 2019.072.NHS Thank you for your Freedom of Information Request which we received on 9 August 2019 requesting information on St Andrews Community Hospital. Question/Response: 1 How much did St Andrew's Community Hospital cost? The final construction cost was £27m. 2 How much did the day surgery unit at St Andrew's Community Hospital cost? The space provided on level 1 of the hospital was designated for Day Surgery and Endoscopy. Most of this is shared space so we are unable to provide a cost for the Day Surgery component in isolation. Under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, NHS Fife does not hold the information you requested. 3 How much did the equipment for the day surgery unit cost please? Theatre space was provided in order to future proof the new hospital and therefore the space wasn’t equipped at the time. Under Section 17 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, NHS Fife does not hold the information you requested. 4 Has the day surgery unit been used for any procedures/operations since the hospital opened? If so, can you say how many procedures with a breakdown of each year since the hospital opened please? The Day Surgery and Endoscopy Unit is used routinely for Endoscopies and lists are routinely run. It is difficult to provide the detail of scopes against clinics as both are classified as Outpatients but since 2010 the activity is 3,600 New Gastroenterology patients. 5 If the day surgery unit has not been used for any procedures/operations can you explain why please? The Day Surgery & Endoscopy Unit is used solely for Endoscopy at present. Initial plans to utilise the small theatre for minor surgery have not developed primarily due to a change in clinical practice when General Surgery changed the criteria for accepting referrals for sebaceous cysts and minor skin lesions. I hope this information is helpful to you. Please do not hesitate to contact me by email, or by telephone on 03451 555555 extension 440971 if I can be of further assistance.
