UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVES October 1981-January 2017 BLDG 900 Forest Park, GA 30297 Healthcare Specialist (Combat Medic) Enlisted after graduating high school in 1981 and was initially trained as a radio operator. As the years progressed I eventually wanted to serve the public as a firefighter/paramedic and then changed my MOS (military occupational specialty) to become a combat medic so that I could save lives on the battlefield as well as my community. After completing 16 weeks of intense and realistic training in 2006 I volunteered to be deployed overseas and was activated for 17 months in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. My most recent deployment ended in April 2012 and I was the Senior Medical NCO for my team in Kuwait. While in Kuwait I was tasked with traveling to Amman, Jordan for the purpose of providing current U.S. combat casualty care techniques to our Jordanian allies prior to their deployment to Afghanistan. Over my 36 years of service as a soldier I have earned many awards related to my performance and dedication to my country. I am familiar with engaging other people, their customs, and have worked alongside soldiers and officers of other countries in the performance of my service. As an NCO I am very familiar with writing reports, evaluations, scheduling and conducting training of soldiers under my command. Also, another aspect of my duties as an NCO was to be a leader and to do my job without supervision so that my officers could concentrate on their job instead of doing my job. GEORGIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY State Capitol 206 Washington Street, SW Atlanta, GA 30334 Legislative Intern January 2015-April 2015 Selected to serve an internship at the Georgia State Capitol during the 2015 legislative session. The internship was through the Georgia Legislative Internship Program which is a highly competitive program with a rigorous selection process. After selected I was assigned to serve as an intern in the Governor’s Floor Leaders Office. During the internship I would write a synopsis of upcoming legislation and provide that information to the legislator who requested it, I answered emails and phone calls from voters, handled guests as they entered our office organized our assigned Senator/Representatives meeting schedules and sometimes I would sit as a proxy during committee meetings and then brief the legislator afterwards. I would also perform any other duties that were assigned during the session as the need arose. Supervisor: Ms. Talmadge James EDUCATION Georgia State University 2015 B.A. Political Science (International Affairs) with a minor in History Studies included macroeconomics, history, policy studies, governmental budgeting, constitutional law, political research, statistics, and other related subjects. Also, part of my education included my internship at the Georgia Capitol during the 2015 legislative session where I learned how policies, programs and laws are moved through the legislative process via committees, hearings, and meetings behind closed doors. I learned the lesson that no matter how perfect the bill appears that it takes compromise to get the bill through the process and the end product might not be as perfect as it was initially, however, it is the process.
