Parties on LGBTQ representation: Conservatives: "The Conservative Party will defend equal rights for all Canadians. The Conservative Party welcomes all people and we will always take a stand against intolerance of any kind. Our MPs will represent everyone in their riding regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. "Conservatives have made large steps on the world stage when it comes to protecting LGBTQ+ rights, including committing to increase the ratio of LGBTQ+ refugees into our country, while permanently establishing the Rainbow Refugee Assistance program." NDP "The NDP believes that LGBTQI2S+ representation is very important in federal politics. For far too long, LGBTQI2S+ people have faced discrimination, alienation, and historically, criminalization, just because of who they are and who they love. Although Canada has made important strides in upholding LGBTQI2S+ rights, there is more work to be done to improve the lives of LGBTQI2S+ Canadians and make Canada a country where everyone can live free from hate and bias. We need LGBTQI2S+ voices in Parliament to shape legislation to ensure our country is fairer and more inclusive for all. Jagmeet Singh and the NDP are proud to have such strong LGBTQI2S+ candidates from coast to coast to coast. In addition, the NDP will always respect the choice of our candidates not to publicly share information about their sexual orientation or gender." Greens: "Our candidate recruitment process includes meeting with potential candidates in each riding with diverse backgrounds. We discuss what their barriers are to running and what they feel it would take for them to run. Not all end up applying but we learn more about what unique barriers are out there." Liberals: "Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party of Canada believe that our country is stronger, and our government is more effective, when decision-makers reflect Canada's diversity," a party spokesperon wrote in an email. "Team Trudeau 2019 includes veterans, teachers, environmentalists, Indigenous leaders, LGBTQ2 advocates, entrepreneurs, scientists, labour leaders, first responders, Olympians and Paralympians, experienced Parliamentarians, and more — all working hard to build a better future for their communities."
