To: Interested Parties From: Ben Tulchin and Corey O’Neil; Tulchin Research October 18, 2019 ▐ New Poll Finds Chesa Boudin in the Lead for San Francisco District Attorney Tulchin Research recently conducted a survey of 400 likely November 2019 voters in San Francisco to assess the state of the impending citywide election for District Attorney. Below we lay out key findings from our survey. Key Findings With just over two weeks until election day, our most recent citywide survey finds Chesa Boudin in the lead in the race for San Francisco District Attorney and well positioned to win. Specifically, Boudin attracts more than one out of five votes (21%) and leads the field as the other three candidates trail with Suzy Loftus at 18%, Nancy Tung at 11% and Leif Dautch at 10% and 40% undecided. San Francisco District Attorney Vote As you may know, there will be an election this November to replace San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón, who is retiring. He does especially well with progressives and voters under 40 and Boudin and his allies will be well served in focusing on turning these groups out to vote. Boudin’s success stems from his compelling message that is clearly resonating with the San Francisco electorate, notably: • Boudin will ensure our criminal justice system works for everyone, not just the wealthy and well connected; • Boudin believes we should stop using our jail as a mental health facility and ensure people get treatment rather than jail time; and • Boudin has stood up to Donald Trump’s attacks on immigrants by protecting immigrant rights and keeping families together. San Francisco • Chicago • Denver Tulchin Research Memo – San Francisco Citywide Survey Results 2 In conclusion, Boudin has the lead thanks to attracting a diverse coalition and a compelling message that is resonating throughout the City. If he can maintain a resource advantage over his opponents, the he will be well positioned to become San Francisco’s next District Attorney. Survey Methodology: From October 13-16, 2019, Tulchin Research conducted a survey among 400 likely November 2019 election voters in San Francisco. The survey was conducted using live professional interviewers calling both landlines and cell phones as well as collecting data online from voters drawn from the voter file. The margin of error for the survey is +/- 4.89 percentage points.
