October 15, 2017 County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar 1600 Pacific Highway, Room 335 San Diego, CA 92101 Dear County Supervisor Gaspar: Saved in America is a non-profit organization consisting of former law enforcement officers and Navy SEALS-turned licensed, insured private investigators. At no charge to families, we assist law enforcement to locate missing and runaway children one of the groups most vulnerable to sexual exploitation. For victims of exploitation, we assist in procuring legal representation, safe housing, and rehabilitative therapy. We would like to formally apply for a grant of $75,000 from the Neighborhood Reinvestment Grant Fund to allow us to continue our mission. According to a 2016 USD study, there are over 8,000 sex trafficking victims/survivors per year in the San Diego region alone, and the average age of entry into child commercial sexual exploitation is 16. Of the 20 high schools in San Diego Unified School District participating in the study, 100% reported active ?recruiting? taking place on their campuses. This $800 million a year underground economy ranks second only to illegal drug trafficking in San Diego County. To date, Saved in America has assisted in locating 46 runaway and missing children in the last 34 months, of which 13-had fallen into sex traf?cking. These children were located and recovered in an average of six days from initial contact with families at a cost of $5,000 per recovery, but these heroic efforts are done at absolutely no charge to the families. Much needed funds will to go buying critical surveillance and safety equipment that will enable us to do our work more effectively and efficiently in order to locate and recover more victims here and across the nation. Equipment needs and costs are noted on next page. We have not previously submitted any applications nor received any grant funds. If given the funds, we plan to spend in the next three months. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. Please feel free to reach out via email or phone if you have any questions or need more information.
