Dear Parents/Guardians of students at Canby Grove Outdoor School,

Outdoor School is dedicated to maintaining a strong partnership with families in our effort to
provide the very best education for students. Key to that partnership is regular and timely
communication. For this reason, we informed you last week that an employee at Canby Grove
had a medical emergency and that students were safe and were not present during the
emergency. We are now sharing additional information with you and your student in keeping
with our commitment to partnership and communication.
We are deeply saddened to share that Cameron “Tumbleweed” Faltersack, the ODS employee
that had the medical emergency, died of drug-related causes. Because the employee’s death was
drug-related, law enforcement responded to the scene and investigated the incident. Law
enforcement has confirmed that no other ODS employees or students were involved in the
circumstances surrounding the death.
We did not share this information with you last week for several reasons: students were not
present during the emergency and were safe, no other employees or students were involved, and
– crucially -- law enforcement requested that we hold the release of detailed information about
the death to protect the integrity of their ongoing investigation and allow them to make arrests
related to the case.
We are sharing this information with you today because law enforcement has notified us that
doing so will no longer jeopardize their ongoing investigation. We are working with your
student’s school to provide supports to students this week.
Cameron was a valued outdoor school employee and he will be missed. Times like these are a
good reminder of the importance of connection and looking after one another. Please join us in
keeping this young man and his family in your thoughts during this difficult time, and take good
care of yourselves and your students.

La Escuela de Aire Libre se dedica a mantener comunicación unida con nuestras familias para
proveer la mejor educación posible a nuestros estudiantes. Clave a esta relación fuerte es tener
comunicaciones a tiempo, y regularmente. Por esta razón, les informamos que la semana pasada
un empleado del sitio de Canby Grove tuvo una emergencia médica, y que los estudiantes
estuvieron seguros y no estuvieron presentes durante la emergencia. Ahora les compartimos
información adicional en continuación con nuestro compromiso de seguir la unida y
comunicación con usted y los estudiantes.
Estamos profundamente tristes de compartir que Cameron “Tumbleweed” Faltersack, el
empleado de la Escuela de Aire Libre que tuvo la emergencia médica, se murió de causas
relacionadas con el uso de drogas. Debido a que la muerte del empleado estuvo relacionada con
drogas, los cuerpos policiacos vinieron al sitio e investigaron el incidente. Los cuerpos policiacos
han confirmado que ningún otro empleado de la Escuela de Aire Libre ni ningún estudiante
estuvo involucrado en las circunstancias de su muerte.
No compartimos esta información con usted la semana pasada por varias razones; Estudiantes no
estuvieron presentes durante la emergencia y estaban seguros, no hubo otro empleado o
estudiante involucrado, y los cuerpos policiacos pidieron que nosotros detuvieramos la liberación
de información detallada sobre la muerte para proteger la integridad de su investigación en curso
y permitir que hagan los arresto relacionados con el caso.
Ahora estamos compartiendo esta información con ustedes porque los cuerpos policiacos nos
notificaron que compartir esta información no haria ningun efecto a su investigación o la
seguridad de los oficiales. Estamos trabajando con la escuela de su estudiante para proveer apoyo
a los alumnos esta semana.
Cameron era un empleado valioso de la Escuela de Aire Libre y lo vamos a extrañar. En
momentos como estos es bueno recordar la importancia de conexion y cuidar uno al otro. Por
favor unase mantener a este joven y su familia en sus pensamientos durante este tiempo tan
difícil, y cuídese a si mismo y a sus alumnos.
