Achievement School District Overview  The Achievement School District (ASD) is a state-run school district that was established by state law in 2010 and serves as the most intensive intervention for Priority schools.  ASD schools are either run by a charter management organization or directly by the state.  ASD schools receive additional funds, grants, and support from the department. 13 Priority and ASD Landscape Robe w, a a am?wg 0 a A, g? all". 5 Ha Venn Mcna Havmr ?Mm" Lillcu?" Hr: 0 Priority schoo (s) ASD schools Dep of a ducahon Why make any changes?  Across all Priority schools, we’re not seeing the student growth that we expect.  The department is therefore re-evaluating the system, structure, and supports to ensure that the ASD and all Priority schools are receiving the right interventions and resources to become high quality schools with strong student outcomes. 15 Transition: Structure of School Turnaround  The department understands there must be more gradation of support and intervention for Priority schools. – Currently, Priority schools either receive some supports or are designated as an ASD school.  We are planning to transition the school turnaround framework to a simplified, tiered model for supporting Priority schools.  Our understanding is that as schools move through these tiers of support, they would receive more support from the department. 16 Proposed: Structure of School Turnaround ASD State governance ASD TIER 3 Final stage Priority status (strongest intervention before ASD) • What differentiates this from the ASD? • What would indicate that the district is taking dramatic steps to intervene in the school without entering the ASD, and what must be in place to ensure it is happening? Intensive Support TIER 2 Escalated Priority school identification (increased intervention) • How long should a school be allowed to stay in this tier without escalating? • How should progress be measured? Strategic Support TIER 1 Initial Priority school identification (local intervention) • A school must show progress within the first two years before escalating. • How should progress be measured?
