RID reviewed the original case report which stated, in essence, that - awoke to find an unknown offender standing over him in his bedroom. did not know this person and stated he appeared intoxicated._ escorted offender out of the front door and offender walked away in an unknown direction. Next, went to his daughter's room to check on her.- told her father the offender had been in her room. Offender sat on victim's bed and started rubbing her shoulders and kissing her cheeks.- told offender to leave her alone and leave the room. After about 10 minutes, offender left the room and went to room, at which time he was escorted out by After offender was gone, discovered an empty can of Bell's Oberon beer on the kitchen counter that did not belong to them. also discovered a cigarette in the kitchen sink. Both items inventoried. Victim was not sure why he waited until 0800 to call the police. stated he may have left the front door unlocked. RID was informed that Sgt. V. VOGT #845, of the 018th District, had additional information about the case. RID proceeded to 018 District to continue this investigation. Sgt. V. VOGT On 27-May-18 at approx. 1845 hrs, RID met with VOGT who was with P0. M. MERCER #4563, Beat 1811. VOGT related that MERCER responded to a call of a CSA report at earlier today (27-May-18) at approx. 1600 (JB281084). MERCER related he met with the caller, who related an unknown male had entered his townhouse at approx. 0220 earlier that day and attempted to kiss his granddaughter,? who had been sleeping on a couch in his bedroom.- had only observed a shado fi ure leaving his bedroom after he awoke and came downstairs to find his front door wide operh stated his granddau hter told him the man woke her up and tried to kiss her before scared him away? who admitted he left his front door unlocked, did not call 911 immediately after the incident. - later learned from that the male offender had touched Sadie Inappropriately" in addition to his attempts to kiss her. At this time, called 911 and MERCER responded to take the report. MERCER related that he did not speak to or her parents, as they were not on scene at the time of his arrival. MERCER ordered an ET to the scene after_ reported that he believed the offender had touched an item in his house. VOGT related that he had been informed of the earlier incident (JB280701) by an OEMC dispatcher who had been workin 2nd watch and noticed the similarities between the two. VOGT also had responded u? VOGT re-inventoried the beer can (lnv# 14181262) and the cigarette (lnv# 14181253) recovered from the scene at 419 Belden Ave and hand-carried the items to Forensic Services. On 27-May-18 at approx. 1910 hrs, RID called ?stated he was not home and would not be available to discuss the incident until the following day. SCHUR #21151 who had alerted RID approx. two weeks prior via e-mail about an offender in a battery case who had grabbed multiple women's buttocks in a Target Store located at 1 State St on 06?May-18 (JB252802). RID noticed a similar physical description to the offender in this case and SCHUR assisted in compiling a photo lineup which included his suspect, At approx. 2130 hrs, RID, SCHUR and Detective J. PEKIC #20799 arrived at to speak with Also present at? RID asked Argentina to take the children upstairs so Dorin could be interviewed privately. At approx. 2140 hrs, RID interviewed in his kitchen._ stated his family had moved into the apartment in February 2018 and that the front door to the building did not always lock when closed. Also, the door to his apartment was sometimes left unlocked out of car had found no damage to either door and believed they had been unlocked. stated he put his children to bed in their rooms and went to sleep with his wife in his bedroom on 26- May-18 at approx. 2130-2200 hrs. was awakened in the middle of the night by the offender who was standing next to his wife's side of the bed. _stated when he woke up it was approximately 0215 hrs. stated the offender asked "Is this- house??. to confront the offender and noticed he smelled of alcohol and appeared intoxicated. told the man to leave and directed him towards the front door. The offender tried to make small-talk, but was cooperative in moving towards the exit. led the man to the doonNay which led to the front stain/veil. The man turned towards and offered to shake his hand at which point told the man to leave or wou call the police._ last saw the man at his apartment door and did not know which way he fled once outside. At this time, went to check on his daughters, whose bedrooms are located on the floor above his. had apparently slept through the entire incident but _was awake and told him that the man had been in her room for 5-10 minutes before he went downstairs. stated _told him she was awakened by the man who was pacing in her room. The man then sat on her bed and talked to her, asking her name. The man mentioned something about tobacco and at some point leaned in and tried to kiss her 3-4 times.? pushed the man away and told him to leave multiple times. The man eventually left, not before dropping an unlit cigarette which had been tucked above his ear on floor. stated the man had apparently told-his name but she could not remember it. stated- had ADHD and as a result, sometimes had trouble recounting stories in a linear manner. Wealmed the kids down and eventually went back to sleep with his wife around 0400 hrs. awoke after a cou le of hours and after "processing" the incident, he decided to contact the police around 0800 stated he regretted not calling immediately after the incident. described the offender as a male white, 2030 ears old 5'06-5'07, 160 lbs, with short brown hair which was "fli ed and styled" in the front. stated the man was slender, but had a "puffy" face.?could not recall much of what the man had been wearing, only that the top had "contrasting" colors with long dark pants. _did not report any property missing from his apartment. At this tw went down the hall to another bedroom and observed asleep in bed while was up playing games on the computer with headphones on. and- had apparently not noticed the man. went down the stairs which lead to his front door which he observed to be wide open. hecked the rest of the house and went back upstairs where-was "shaken a strange man had woken her up on the couch and tried to kiss her. related he was awakened by the man at approximately 0220 hrs. - tried to comfort _and watched Disney with her. stated the two of them stayed up until daylight broke, at which time- became more relaxed and slept a little. and -what ha ened later in the morning and they were surprised and also told parentsh and when they called in told upset the morning. Upon hearing the news, the victim's parents decided to come home immediately and dropped off his_ at their house around 1200 that day. later heard from his son, -, that had told him and his wife the man had touched her "inappropriately"- did not know any details be ond that. After consulting with a policeman friend,_ called 911 at approx 1430 hrs.? stated he thought the man was a drunk who had wandered into his house, which had happened before, which made him hesitant to call at first. stated his front door is secured by a lock that is different from a standard deadbolt. feared that if the kids needed to get out in case of a fire, they would not know how to unlock the door so he left it unlocked._ regretted his thinking and called it ?stupid". _stated he noticed his metal cigarette box on his first floor coffee table wasop} stated stated this was unusual and believed it may have been disturbed by the offender. he did not have any cash in his wallet which was left in his bedroom, however, he was not sure if he had any cash inside to begin with. did not notice anything else missing. On 28-May-18 at approx 1700 hrs, spoke to on the phone. related that his father told them what happened and afte returned home she admitted to him and his wife the man had touched her genitals over her pajamas in addition to kissing or trying to kiss her. stated _told them she was "terrified" and unable to scream. agreed to have- participate in a VSI on Friday, 01?Jun-18, at 0900 hrs. RID reviewed the crime scene report (#368957) related to? and learned that on 27- May-18 at 1708 hrs, Beat 5814, ET T. MCKITTERICK #18546 processed the metal cigarette box for prints with negative results. searched CPD Data Warehouse for male white subjects matching the description with first or last name "Hunter". compiled a photo array which included four subjects and GLIVA. APPROVAL COMPLETE were submitted to ISP to be examined for evidence which could lead to a deduced suspect DNA profile. (ISP request form #76202). On 29-Ma -18 at 1830 hrs, RID arrived at the Chicago Children's Advocacy Center (CCAC) and met with WEN 1905 hrs, Det. L. BOND #21240, an independent administrator, showed a photo array. after viewing the photo array, was unable to make an identification. Photo array inventoried under #14182895. See related supplementary report for further information. At 1942 hrs, was interviewed by CCAC Forensic Interviewer -. RID along with ASA Susie BUCARO observed the interview from behind one-way glass. ave a detailed account of the incident which was consistent with earlier accounts from her parents. admitted the offender, who told her his name was "Hunter", kissed her on the neck and told her "You're so beautiful". Offender also hugged victim and shook her hand. - stated she did not scream when the offender was in her room or after he left because she was "frozen" in fear. Interview concluded at 2033 hrs. On 30-Mai-18 at airrox 1300 hrs, RID met with_ who is the? allowed RID to review the footage from a camera in the alley by the garage which is motion activated. In a motion initiated event at approx 0211 hrs, a male white subject fitting the victim/witness description is seen walking w/b in the alley past the camera towards Cleveland Ave. The offender is wearing a light colored button down shirt with front pockets, slim fitting dark pants and white shoes. It should be noted that the camera system time was approx two (2) minutes ahead of actual time. Ave building._ stated that the camera did not capture any person walking, including the male seen in the ?foota later contacted when he noticed the motion-sensor sensitivity on the camera at as turned to low which could explain why the camera wasn't activated by the man walking past. On 30-May-18 at 2141 hrs, RID submitted to News Affairs an updated Community Alert which included screen captures of the male seen in the ?footage. RID also submitted the footage recovered from On 31-May-18 at 0905 RID received a call from who stated he was the attorney of stated he would fulfill RID's multiple requests for footaie from the cameras at including the camera on the garage by the alley. stated the footage would be available for pickup later in the day. - On 31-May-18 at 0940 hrs,? called RID after seeing the pictures and footage included in the alert on the news. stated he was sure this was the offender. On 01-Jun-18 at a rox 0900hrs, RID arrived at the Chica 0 Children's Advocacy Center (CCAC) and met with and her At 1909 hrs, was interviewed by CCAC Forensic Interviewer RID along with ASA Patrick FARRELL observed the interview from behind one-way glass. CCAC Forensic Interviewer? also observed the interview. - stated she was sleeping on a couch in her grandfather's room when she was awakened by the offender who proceeded to kiss her on the lips and "squeeze" her "private parts" over her iaiamas with his hand._ stated she was "in shock" and tried to push the offender off. could not provide a physical description of the offender due to the darkness in the roomthe bedroom and heard the front door slam. told her grandfather what happened when he woke up. On 01-Jun-18, RID reviewed the footage from which captured a male walking w/b in the alley towards Cleveland Ave at 0214 hrs. The male appears to be the same sub'ect as seen in the? alley footage. The male walks to the entrance of? an apartment building, where the door opens and the male is last seen standing outside of the door. The camera event, which is motion-activated, stops at that point and does not start again until the next motion-activated event at 0222 in which the subject is no longer seen. RID learned that on 04-Jun-18 during 1st watch walked into 018 District station with jewelry that was supposedly related to this case. related to 018 desk officers that she had gotten the jewelry from the offender who was in her car on the night of the incident. claimed she did not know the offender and only reco nized him from the news reports days later. 018 Desk documented the information related by ?in a patrol supplementary report and inventoried the jewelry under lnv# 14187802. APPROVAL COMPLETE On 08-Jun-18 at approx. 1650 hrs, RID called _and spoke to her on the phone. - related that on Sunday, 27-Ma -18, at a rox. 0330 she was driving her red Nissan Sentra to - bar when she observed a female acquaintance, who she had a bad relationship with in front of the bar._ stated it looked like the acquaintance was waiting for a ride so_decided to keep driving to let a little time pass to avoid running into her. pulled in front of an apartment building at rwhere she observed a male white talking to female white in front of the building. stated it caught her attention because it appeared the female did not want to talk to the male sub'ect. A short time later, another male white came from across the street and took the girl away? assumed this subject was the female's friend or boyfriend. At this time, the male subject who was left approached parked vehicle which had the windows down. _admitted she had been rolling a marijuana cigarette in her car which the male subject noticed. and the male began talking and _eventually invited the man to sit in the car after the male asked if she would share her marijuana cigarette. stated the male, who appeared drunk, took women's jewelry out of his pockets and showed? asked if the male had robbed someone, to which he did not answer. stated the man proceeded to tell her he was in town from Indiana for a friend's bachelor party. The male also told her he had a criminal history, including time spent in jail for home invasion and bur and the male talked and smoked marijuana in car for about 20 minutes before asked him to leave. observed the male walking e/b on Webster Ave before she drove away and went to- arriving sometime before 0430. described the male as white, approx. 25-30 years old, 5'07-5'10 I 170 lbs, short strawberry blonde hair. could not remember his clothing. stated she found some of the male's 'ewelry under her front passenger seat cover, where the male had been sitting, later that day. *stated a "cou le" days later she saw the news reports about the case which included video of the suspecth stated she immediately recognized the suspect in the news as the man who had been in her car. _then decided to report this information to police and turn the jewelry in._ agreed to meet RID on Sunday, 10-Jun-18 to discuss the matter. On 10-Jun-18 at approx. 1800 hrs, RID met- in front of where _worked as a _agreed to ride with RID and point out the location where she met the male subject.? pointed out where she parked that night which was a loading zone in front of an apartment building at_ - proceeded to recount to RID her interaction with the male which was consistent with her earlier account. added that later in the day on Sunday, 27-May-18, at approx. 1230 she received a missed call from? a number with a central Indiana area code._ believed it was the male from her car since he told her he was from lndiana._tried calling the number back a couple hours later but no one answered-had not received any further communications from the number. SCHWEITZER required a video statement from a witness in JB281084, before charges would be approved.
