We are currently developing our Community Cat program and are pilo ng a few new policies for the San Diego loca on. We are returning to habitat cats that appear to be unsocial and unowned but also friendlies that have come in from areas where we feel the owners may not be able to or know to come to look for their cat at our shelter. Several studies have shown that cats are at least 8x more likely to return home on their own versus being found by their owner in the shelter. We want to make sure that cats are going back to their homes and given the best opportunity to live where they have been thriving and are most comfortable, regardless of sociability. We’ve o en found (and been told by mul ple na onal organiza ons working with community cats) that friendly community cats are friendly because someone is caring for them and has been socializing them. If any cat is found to be unthri y or showing signs that he/she is not thriving, we would not consider them for return to habitat. I hope this info helps, please let me know if you have any other ques ons, I’m happy to chat! https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1?ik=68f4f54e80&view=pt&search=all&permthid=thread-f%3A1650065365319934296&simpl=msg-f%3A165006536531… 1/2
