Whereas, Medcare Advantage plans are heaviy marketed to seniors by insurance companies,
with less than ideal transparency in advertising; and

Whereas, These plans produce higher insurance company pro?ts at cost to CMS because
Advantage plans are paid at a higher rate than traditional Mediate; and

Whereas, There also is the potential for higier annual and lifetime costs for the patient under an
Advantage Plan; and

Whereas, Presentations by insurance company of?cials to seniors can overemphasize the value
of (ifferent options and can create confusion; therefore be it

RESOLVED, That our American Medical Association encourage AARP, hsurance companies
and other vested parties to develop simpi?ed tools and guidelines for comparing and
contrasting Medicare Advantage plans. (New HOD Policy)
