Dear Senator Ferguson,

I am writing to inform you that I am retiring from the Senate of Maryland, effective
December 1, 2019.

I wish the transition to go smoothly, hence, my notice will provide time to effectively
choose a replacement to ?ll my vacant seat.

Having served Baltimore County, and City, and presently representing District 44, has
allowed me to serve the people of Maryland, and work with my colleagues. I will miss
them greatly.

I do this with a heavy heart. As many may know, I have had three spine surgeries in
recent years, the last one on September However, in my desire to serve my
constituents, I remained in of?ce, including accepting a leadership position as Vice Chair
on the Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee.

I hope I have made a difference in my years as a public of?cial, which includes almost
twenty ?ve years as a legislator, and four years with the Democratic Central Committee.

My journey, also as a mentor, will pave a path for others to follow.
