Damage Description: heavy damage to approximately 40 feet of metal beam guardrail off left shoulder of Exit 85 NB off ramp

 

On 12-28?201 9 at approximately 1115 hrs. this Trooper was conducting motor vehicie (speed)
enforcement on the Gold Star Bridge Northbound in the area of Exit 84 in New London, CT. At that
time this Trooper observed the accused vehicle (a red Nissan Versa) traveiing at a speed much
greater than the flow of traffic in the center lane. Southbound stationary laser confirmed the accused
vehicle speed at 102 in a clearly posted 55 zone. This Trooper attempted to catch up to
and keep site of the accused as he traveled over The Goldstar Bridge. The accused vehicle was
observed traveling at a high rate of speed as it exited the Exit 85 North off ramp into Groton City.
This Trooper took the exit and observed that the accused vehicie had driven through the left shoulder
metat beam guardrail and rolled over. As this Trooper arrived Operator 1 was exiting the vehicle.
Emergency services were summoned and Operator 1 was detained pending further investiagtion.
Operator 1 was further found to be in possession of more than one ounce of marijuana. Operator 1
was transported to Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Operator 1 was later issued a
Misdemeanor Summons for Reckiess Driving 14-222, Operating With A Suspended License 14?215,
Operating An Unisured Motor Vehicle 14?213b, Making An improper Turn 14-241 and Possession Of
Marijuana (greater than 1 ounce) 21a?279. -
