City Manager SUBJECT: Support for Conversion of to a Customer-owned Utility (Action) Council will consider an invitation from a coalition of local government leaders advocating for a customer-owned PGEE to Join in indicating support. E: DIECUSEIDH PGCE is currently undergoing proceedings with its future viability and format on the table. Competing interests are in?uencing Governor Newsom and the California Public Utilities Commission as to preferred outcome options. Two major players include private investment ?rms and lenders. Alternatively. a coalition of over two dozen local government leaders is signed onto a concept, and is approaching the CPUC to advocate, for to be transformed from an investorvowned utility to a customer-owned utility. There are over soc customer-owned {aka community-owned} utilities nationwide; Sacramento Municipal Utility District is a well-known example in our region, owning and operating electrical generation and distribution assets in a defined Sacramento?region district. Customer owned utilities operate under their own board of directors, and in deference to the needs of their customers rather than to investor?shareholders.
