Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Saint Paul, MN 55155 Re: Governor's Advisory Council on Climate Change Dear Appointing Committee: I am writing to express my interest in being appointed to the Governor's Advisory Council on Climate Change As requested, I have completed the online application and have also uploaded my resume through the Secretary of State's website. As a professional who works in an industry heavilv Impacted by policy decisions, I was happy to read that Governor Wall's new Climate Change Subcabinet would also have an Advisory Council comprised of 15 individuals with various backgrounds I feel It Is Important to have representation from the electric utility sector. As Chief Flnancial Officer of Minnesota's largest geographical electric utility, Lake Countw Power, i am qualified to speak to the changes our industry has made since the passage of the Next Generation Act in 2007 and the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The utility sector has been highly successful in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and we do not intend to stop at the 2025 goal of 25% renewable electriCIty generation. As you know, climate change is a complex problem and impacts areas of our state differently. I feel it is important to have geographical diversity amongst the members of the Advrsory Council. As a lifelong resident of rural Northeastern Minnesota, I am well versed in the issues and decisions that affect this part of the state and will bring that knowledge to the Council. Thank you for your time and consideration. lcan be reached anytime via email at or by cell phone--r Sincerely, Mark A.
