Vitti’s full statement on Monge’s resignation from the School at Marygrove:  Interim Principal Monge resigned from Detroit Public Schools Community District. She will no  longer be an employee with the district. This decision was hers. Ultimately, she did not feel that  she was the right fit for the high school principalship. She was originally recruited to eventually  serve as the K-8 principal. We respect and understand her decision. There were no outstanding  issues, concerns, or questions regarding her leadership or separation. The District reassigned  Principal Krista Reeves, former Bagley principal and Southeastern/Cass Tech Assistant  Principal to serve as the interim principal for the School at Marygrove. We held a formal meet  and greet for families yesterday to explain the status of the leadership change. The overall  consensus is that parents are satisfied with the level of education their students are receiving  and they are committed to the school and its future. Leadership matters but for parents and  children it’s students’ experience in classrooms and at the school that matters most. The  changes in leadership have been unexpected and unfortunate but we have no question or doubt  that The School at Marygrove is currently successful and will continue to grow into one of the  best schools in the country.  Monge’s full statement:  On Friday, January 10, I notified DPSCD of my intent to resign from the position of interim  principal at The School at Marygrove. My last day with the district will be Friday, January 24. I  am working to support a smooth transition for the school and continue to root for the success  of our students, staff, and the Marygrove project as a whole.
