Governor In Re: Reporting Requirements for 2019 - Novel Coronavirus Under Ohio Revised Code 3701.14 and 3701.23 Director's Journal Entry I, Amy Acton, MD, MPH, Director of the Ohio Department of Health, in accordance with my authority set forth in Sections 3701.14 and 3701.23 of the Ohio Revised Code, declare that 2019 novel Coronavirus (2019?-nCoV) is a disease of major public concern pursuant to Ohio Adm. Code 37013- because of the severity of disease and its potential for epidemic spread: thus, posing a threat to the health and welfare of the residents of Ohio. To protect the people and prevent the spread of contagious or infectious agents, I order that con?rmed or suspected cases of 2019-nCoV be reported immediately as a ClassA disease pursuant to Ohio Adm. Code to the local health district in which the person resides (or the local health district wherein the person is being medically evaluated if the person's residence is unknown or not in Ohio) by the physician in attendance of a known or suspected case; by a person in charge of a hospital, clinic, or other institution providing care or treatment, having knowledge of a reportable con?rmed or suspect case pursuant to Ohio Adm. Code 3701?3?03; by the person in charge of any laboratory that examines specimens of human origin for evidence of 2019-nCoV infection and determines the results of such examination to be positive pursuant to Ohio Adm. Code 3701?3?04; or by any individual having knowledge of a person suffering from 2019?nCoV. Physicians in attendance of a person presenting with illness that is clinically and epidemiologically consistent with 2019-nCoV, where an alternative diagnosis has not been determined or is unknown, should immediately contact their governing health jurisdiction to obtain the most current case de?nition and guidance for the management and containment of 2019-nCoV. Local health districts that receive reports of con?rmed or suspected cases shall immediately report such cases to the Ohio Department of Health pursuant to Ohio R.C. 3701.23 and Ohio Adm. Code 3701?3-06. The purpose of these requirements is to effectively control and suppress the spread of infectious agents, pursuant to Ohio R.C. 3701.14.
