Dear Mr. Tilkin:
Thank you for speaking with me on Friday, and for the email Friday afternoon. Mr. and
Mrs. Kelley have instructed me to release the following statement on their behalf:
“From the moment the parties agreed that we would step in and assume custody
of our daughter’s children (our grandchildren), our primary and singular focus
has been our grandchildren’s best interests. Indeed, we hope and pray that
these children’s best interests remain the parties’ and the court’s primary focus.
To that end, we will not litigate this matter in the press, as our daughter and her
attorney have, regrettably, chosen to do.
To be clear, we do not wish to litigate at all. However, we believe that dialogue
through the court process serves our grandchildren’s interests much better than
do inflammatory statements to, and through, the media. We ask that you
respect our privacy – and more importantly – our grandchildren’s privacy as we
all work through this process.
