Contents ! FAQs   1. What is TMS? Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a well-studied, FDA-approved, drug-free, and non- invasive therapy. TMS treatment uses magnetic pulses to stimulate electrical activity in the brain’s neurons (nerve cells). TMS is also referred to as repetitive TMS (rTMS), because treatment typically includes the delivery of repetitive magnetic pulses. This stimulation can lead to improvements in a variety of conditions, like Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Obsessive- Compulsive Disorder (OCD), migraines, and other conditions. 2. What is PrTMS? Personalized repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS) is TMS — but with a smarter, more sophisticated approach. Unlike conventional TMS that is one-size-fits-all, PrTMS intricately customizes the TMS therapy delivered to each patient to achieve the best results. PrTMS uses brainwave analysis to measure brain activity and develop a customized therapy protocol for each patient’s unique brain mapping, ensuring patients receive optimized treatment. 3 . H ow d o e s P r T M S w o r k ? PrTMS involves a 3-step process that works by evaluating your brain function, creating a personalized treatment plan, and then applying the therapy to correct brainwave disruptions. Read more on our PeakLogic Website. 4. What ’s unique about PrTMS? With conventional TMS therapy, the same therapy is delivered to every patient — regardless of their condition, circumstance, or degree of brainwave frequency disturbance. PrTMS is a personalized version of TMS — and TMS is FDA approved. PrTMS is expected to receive FDA approval in 2020 — but until then, it is allowed to be used pre-approval according to physician discretion. 1 of 5 1/30/20, 12:32 PM FAQs - San Diego, CA: MindSet https://web.archive.org/web/20191021190018/https://www.mind... PrTMS is a very safe procedure. PrTMS is a personalized version of TMS — and TMS is FDA approved. Patients are able to resume normal activities immediately after treatment, and PrTMS has limited risk of side effects. 9.What are common side effects? PrTMS reduces the likelihood of side effects compared to standard TMS, because the personalization capability allows for precisely titrating the level of energy delivered to be only the amount required for each patient. A mild headache that is treatable with over-thecounter pain relievers is the most common side effect, although many patients don’t report any discomfort. Very rarely, seizures have been reported. 1 0 . C a n I u n d e r g o t re a t m e n t i f I a m p re g n a n t ? In certain circumstances, PrTMS can be applied during pregnancy. Talk to your doctor to see if TMS is right for you if you are pregnant. 11. Am I qualified for PrTMS? PrTMS can be used to help with a wide variety of conditions, including those that have not responded to medication in the past. Talk to your doctor to see if PrTMS is right for you. 1 2 . I s ev e r y o n e a c a n d i d a t e f o r t re a t m e n t ? No. Patients with aneurysm clips, stents in the neck or brain, brain monitoring electrodes, deep brain stimulators, or any form of metal in the head or on the face are not eligible for treatment. 1 3 . Then, schedule an initial assessment to begin the process and determine next steps for your treatment. 14. What kind of diagnostic testing is completed? The first step of PrTMS is to evaluate and map your brain function. An EEG recording will be taken to measure your brain activity. PeakLogic ComfortScanTM EEGs are wireless, involve no gels, and can be done in less than 5 minutes — compared to conventional TMS, which can be hours. This provides an objective, quantitative look at brain function.
