During our call, I socialized the idea that my goal was to remove myself completely from the trial to avoid any conflict of interest, and that the software would need to be more automated in order to remove myself completely, to avoid bias…that was really our only interaction on this issue… I then spoke to the Swarz center at UCSD, and was told by TP Jung that his best advice was to seek an outside group to build the software, as there were no available (or interested) people at UCSD to build it….also, I was told that any UCSD build would take a long time, be expensive, and would be in MATLAB, making it not suitable for an eventual IDE, marketing, etc… From: "Mah, Eric" Date: Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 9:20 AM To: "kevinmurphy@ucsd.edu" Subject: news reporter Dear Dr. Murphy, I was contacted by Brad Racino who indicated to me that you told him that I advised and instructed you on the design of your clinical trials related to the personalized TMS treatment. He was asking for a response from me. Before I respond to him, I wanted to give you the opportunity to correct his misunderstanding. The first time I learned about personalized TMS was after you had submitted the protocols to the IRB office. It would have been impossible for me to advise you on study design of your projects as I did not know you before your studies were submitted to the IRB office for review. I kindly ask that you correct your statements with Mr. Racino. Or with your agreement, I’ll let him know that he was mistaken. If you would like to discuss further by phone, please let me know.
