Results to Come: So far, the IDP has only released 86% of the caucus results. To find out what the outstanding 14% will hold for our campaign, we’ve had dozens of volunteers in our office calling through our complete list of precinct volunteers to chase down as much data as possible. Given this effort, we are confident that when more results are released you’ll see Bernie Sanders continue to hold a lead in the popular vote in both the first and second round balloting. We also have a viable path forward to achieve a clean sweep and retake the lead in state delegate equivalents and national pledged delegates. Importantly, the IDP has also yet to disclose the results of satellite caucuses. According to our internal results, Bernie Sanders has won the satellite caucuses, overwhelmingly winning first and second round voting, as well as state delegate equivalents. This success is due to our relentless organizing with working class voters and communities of color, specifically with the Latinx, AAPI, muslim and arab communities. How We’re Winning: We’re winning by turning out a multiracial working-class coalition, sending a message to the rest of the country that this is how to defeat Donald Trump. We’re leading in the largest cities in the largest counties in the state from Des Moines and Cedar Rapids to Sioux City and Council Bluffs. But this is a diverse coalition that wins no matter the geography, whether it’s Black Hawk county with a city and large college campus or if it’s Buena Vista county in the heart of Steve King’s district. Our campaign has found success in urban, suburban and rural Iowa. We have won 9 of the 13 precincts with more than 20% registered voters under 23 years old as turnout in college age-heavy precincts surpassed our initial expectations. Our bilingual organizing effort looks to have been wildly successful as we’ve won 11 of the 12 precincts with over 20% Latino registered voters that have been released so far. And it appears we have won 48% of the second round vote in precincts with over 20% African American registered voters. Overcoming Challenges: This was not easy though. Bernie Sanders was the only Democratic candidate to face negative attack ads during the Iowa caucus. We were able to overcome that challenge by fielding the largest, most organized field operation in the race. While many overlooked our efforts, we kept our heads down and did the hard work of reaching out to as many new caucusgoers as possible. This momentum will carry us forward into New Hampshire, Super Tuesday, and eventually, defeating Donald Trump.
