Cc: "Sandack, Jonathan" Thanks Kevin, for meeting with me and explaining this as I mentioned I knew very little about and have seen nothing in writing. Think we can ?ne tune the language once we see what the donor?s speci?c wording, etc we all discussed. I appreciate your willingness to help fund some of the innovative faculty working in the young RT recruits and related IITs. I?m on inpatient attending for 2 weeks let?s stay in will do the right thing. Best, Scott From: Murphy, Kevin Sent: Friday, May 6, 2016 6:29 PM To: Lippman, Scott Cc: Sandack, Jonathan Subject: research gift Scott, thank you for meeting today. I?m sure some of the information we discussed today was the ?rst time this knowledge was made available to you. Per your request, this a summary email. Per our discussion, a previous donor of mine, Charles Kreutzkamp, graciously donated 10M to my research fund, speci?cally, for research into the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation, for a number of neurocognitive disorders. This treatment falls under the "Radiation Medicine Applied Sciences? rubric of our department. As made clear today, this is a Kaiser patient, encountered and treated at a satellite facility owned and operated by Ccare, and subsequently treated with his wife, with in my research lab in Del Mar. As discussed, once the funds were agreed upon, I directed Charles to my existing ROD account via Sandy Liarakos. I was explicitly clear with Sandy, that a very large donation was headed my way, by patient Charles Kreutzkamp, in order to fund my meeting with the Foundation, the patient told me that ?1 left you so much money, that you are going to want to kill very good sense of humor, and we were very close. I am asking that the full amount of this gift be placed into my existing or newly established ROD account as originally directed. This account and money should be under my direction, less the 600,000 that i agreed to donate to the dean?s of?ce. We discussed the possibility of several faculty in the cancer center who may possibly bene?t from some of these funds, both in, and outside my department. The decision to fund these faculty will ultimately rest with me, as i will be the sole distributor of funds from the account. It is my determination to honor the donor?s intent. I had multiple, extensive conversations with the patient and his wife over a nearly two year period. I speci?cally discussed, asked for (and received) 10M, in order to cover the costs of 5 separate trials in each estimated to cost 2M. This is a very generous gift that i would like to get settled into the account as soon as possible. I would like to formally thank his wife, Ernestina, as she has recently asked me ?did you receive your 10M gift yet. Best, kevin Kevin T. Murphy, MD. As you know, we have a radiation therapy center in 45 ranch in partnership with Ccare. It?s a site that i started for our dept in late now have 600 3 year on treatment, mostly Kaiser, some Ccare and some UCSD. One of my Kaiser patients, Skip Kreutzkamp was treated by me for bone mets, but more importantly, i treated him with a novel form of for his chemobrain. He became a new person, improved sleep, decreased anxiety, and more coherent. He was so grateful he gave me 50k to fund ?research in for cancer patients. I then opened a research center in Del Mar in 2014 funded from another grateful patient, and began to treat a number of neurocognitive disorders with from autism to Alzheimer?s. While observing many of my patients, the father of one of my patients with Asperger?s, made controversy by leaving UCSD and taking his Alzheimer researchers with him, in some part due to his belief in for Alzheimer?s. I had met with the Pradeep Khosla about this before it happened. I showed Pradeep my data, and he suggested that i ?go out and raise some money for this?. Skip was treated with a ?tune up? at the Del Mar research lab and i also began to treat his wife, Ernestina, for anxiety and depression. She did remarkably well. This is a daily therapy, 5 days a week, usually for 6?8 weeks. Skip and Ernestina watched in my lobby, as PTSD veterans, children with CP, chemobrain, through the door for treatment. Skip asked me how much money i needed to really make this technology go. I replied that i needed to research this had written drafts of 4 clinical trials: chemobrain in adults and peds, autism, and postpartum depression. A PTSD trial was already ongoing, but needed to be repeated. Each trial would cost roughly 1-2M. He thought at ?rst he was then told me that he was going to leave me ?so much money that i would want to kill him now to get He asked me where to deposit this money, and i suggested to use my existing University account, since i would perform this research predominantly on campus, using the IRB, UCSD Pl?s I trusted the called Sandy Liarakos (who had handled a previous 1M gift for me), and gave her the story that i had a VERY large donor, Charles Kreutzkamp, who needed to be put in contact with development. It was very clear that this was not a UCSD patient, he and his wife were treated offsite in my research lab, and that this gift was meant to continue research in I ended up giving the contact number to development to his wife, have since met with multiple UCSD chairs and investigators and have offered to fund these trials: Tom Moore and his team regarding a postpartum depression trial, Gaby and dept of peds staff for autism, and Bill Roberts at Rady?s for chemobrain in pediatrics. In my department, i have met with several junior faculty and offered to sponsor their research in the cancer (Loren Mell for the phase II with Genelux for cancer) and agreed to sponsor a fellow in pediatric social work. Outside the University, i have had multiple discussions with the development of?ce at the University of Notre Dame. They have a 10B endowment. We are in discussions re matching funds for clinical research projects. In San Diego, i have met with the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) on multiple occasions, and am now treating several members of this group and their i am also working with this group on matching fund i had a phone call with Ernestina and she asked me ?did you receive your 10M i had to answer then discovered that these funds had been redirected as a ?general donation to was went to meet with David (Brenner) and relayed this story in full. He stated unequivocally, that these funds would be put into my research email exchange following that meeting with David ldon?t know if anyone has contacted you, or if you have other information about this Kevin T.
