“I would like to first send my condolences out to the family, friends and loved ones of 
the fallen officer. My heart goes out to each and every one of them. I can only pray 
that the joy and loving memories comfort their hearts in their time of need. That 
they receive a glimpse of peace and hope and moments they find it hard to bear. I 
also pray for their forgiveness in this unintentional and misfortunate tragedy because 
to lose someone so sudden sometimes question everything we believe in. I am 
deeply regretful, sympathetic and remorseful for my involvement resulting in such a 
horrible situation. So many lives have been changed because of this and the hurt is at 
a magnitude that I couldn’t fathom it happened. I’m ashamed by the malicious 
attacks against my family, my supporters and myself. The comments that were made 
and these attacks are heartbreaking. The remarks were vile, they were ferocious, 
they were racist and insidious. I can only question the character of some people who 
have such cruel intentions to tear down people who had no involvement in this 
incident. Now I feel [as though] I may deserve some of these vengeful remarks, but 
my family and loved ones don’t deserve any of these hateful attacks at all. They are 
just as heartbroken as anyone else. I am very conscience and aware of the charges I 
face. One of the reasons I fear, an order of retaliation is against me. I honestly fear 
for the health and safety of my loved ones. The Newport News police department 
are intimidating like terrorist. The fallacy that they are here to protect and serve is 
non‐existent. The fallacy of police and civilian relationship in our community is non‐
existent. The fallacy that we are innocent until proven guilty has yet to be seen. We 
are all seen as being guilty first until we prove our innocence. The definition of my 
character is evident enough to show how I’m depicted to society for their own gain. 
In 2002, I was charged with drunk in public and trespassing. Both in which I was 
found not guilty of. That lead to an illegal search and seizure, in which I was later 
charged with possession of cocaine and possession of a firearm by violent convicted 
felon. My only prior charges were attempted breaking and entering and grand 
larceny, which should had been a trespassing charge due to no evidence other than 
me being on the property. I served 12 years in the Department of Corrections for 
being illegally detained and illegally searched. I feel as though my debt to society was 
been paid in full. Since my release in 2014, I’ve maintained employment with the 
same company [all while] building a reputation as a hardworking and dedicated 
employee. I have received rewards and promotions for my accomplishments within 
the company. I’ve also built relationships with businessmen and women in our 
community for the work I’ve done outside of my 9 to 5 [job]. In 2018, I was charged 
with robbery and possession of a firearm by convicted felon. Once again, I feel as 
though our legal system has failed me. It was election year for Sherriff Graham at the 
Pasquotank County Sherriff Department. The political tactics made by him and the 
FBI of making an arrest in 2018 for a bank robbery committed in 2016 was 
presumptively reasonable to persuade voters decisions. Those charges have now 
been dropped. I am a tax paying citizen who want only the right to fair and just 
opportunity to prove my innocence, who deserve the opportunity to prepare for a 
trial of this status and grandeur and not to be targeted and punished for my 
convictions that I’ve already served time against almost 20 years ago.”
