Place bookmarks in children’s books on pages that clearly 
show characters’ emotions. 
Give each child a book and a magnifying glass. 
Invite children to hunt for a feeling on the page where the 
bookmark is placed. 
Invite children to share their observations. 

EXTENSIONS
For younger children, focus on books with clear, simple 
illustrations of happy, sad, mad, and scared.
