Seattle Public Schools Child Care Proposal
Seattle Public School in conjunction with support from the City of Seattle Department of Early Learning
in proposing opening 5 school sites for Kindergarten through Fifth (5th) grade students, focusing first on
First Responders. Each school site will house 10 classrooms with a 9:1 ratio of children to adults and
operate Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Three meals and two snacks will be served to
cover this timeframe. The following will outline how each site will function for the 12 hours open each
weekday.

Two (2) 7-hour shifts (open for childcare from 7am to 7pm)
o 6:30 am to 1:30 pm
o 12:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Twelve (12) staff per shift at each site (DEEL)

One (1) Nurse per shift at each site (SPS)
One (1) Supervisor/Principal or Assistant Principal per shift each site (SPS)
One (1) Office support at each site (SPS)
One (1) Custodial staff per shift at each site (SPS/DEEL)
Three meals and two snacks (SPS/DEEL)

Sites will be established in proximity to area hospitals, such as First Hill area hospitals, Seattle Children’s
Hospital, and Northwest Hospital in the north end. Depending on need, other site locations may be
opened.
See attached budget for the model to run from April 6 through June 18. This includes being open
through the previously scheduled Spring Break week and staff planning and coordination from April 1
until April 6.
