Dear Dr. Johnson and Hamilton County School Board:
Today Rhonda Thurman, District 1 representative on the School Board, made ​false accusations
about the teacher group, Hamilton County United​, when she clearly stated that the group was
behind a letter of complaint against her. Unfortunately, these accusations were made on her
Facebook page. There will be hyperlinked images throughout this letter to substantiate these
facts.
We believe Mrs. Thurman violated Article III, Section 3 of MY RELATIONS TO TEACHERS
AND PERSONNEL which states, “​I will not criticize employees publicly but will make such
criticism to the director of schools for investigation and action if necessary.” Instead of taking her
criticisms to Dr. Johnson, Mrs. Thurman posted them on Facebook.
In addition, no member of Hamilton County United ​sent the letter, but she repeatedly says we
did​. We are unsure if a ​teacher or educator ​even wrote the letter in question, as she claims in
her comments, but believe it was a parent in the community. Rhonda further criticizes teachers
w​hen she states, ​“with the lack of knowledge this bunch has about American history, the
Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and basic civil rights and liberty, they are making
this way too easy​.” Mrs. Thurman again attacks us by insulting our knowledge as educators. In
addition, the comments that she allows and engages with on her Facebook post take it even
further by calling educators ​“whiney lil bitches.​” She has the ability to delete other people’s
comments, as well as defend teachers, yet she does not.
Furthermore, the comments do not adhere with Article V. MY RELATIONS WITH THE
DIRECTOR OF SCHOOLS, where Mrs. Thurman violates Section 1. “I will support full
administrative authority as well as responsibility for the director of schools to properly discharge
all professional duties,” when she allows comments about Dr. Johnson such as,​ “Whom do they
think Johnson is? Boys wear Bow Ties!”​ Her lack of respect for district leadership is blatant.
We are teachers who have been falsely accused and misrepresented by a school board
member.
