Re: Extension of Declaration of a State of Local Emergency

Dear Mayor Battle,

As you know, on March 16, 2020, the City Council of Huntsville, Alabama, declared a State of Local
Emergency (Resolution No. 20-266) in response to the pandemic. The Council authorized you, as
Mayor, to execute the emergency powers provided by that action. The State of Local Emergency was to extend
to Monday, April 6, 2020, at 5:00 pm, unless the President of the City Council elected to extend the duration
thereof. The Resolution provided for extensions of up to two (2) additional periods of three (3) weeks. On April
16, 2020, I notified you of my decision to extend the State of Local Emergency for three (3) additional weeks, as
authorized by the full Council. That first extension is scheduled to expire on April 27, 2020.

In accord with the authority vested in me by the full Council, I hereby notify you of my decision to
further extend the State of Local Emergency for an additional period of three (3) weeks, until Monday, May
18, 2020, at 5:00 pm. This is the final extension authorized by the Council on March 16, 2020. If
circumstances require further extension beyond May 18, 2020, approval of the full Council will be required.
