Resolution Relating to RESOLUTION________ P REMOVAL OF “EVERYONE LOVES A PARADE” MURAL Sponsor(s): Councilor(s) Pine, Dieng, Carpenter, Stromberg, Hanson, Tracy Introduced: ____________________ Referred to: ____________________ ______________________________ Action: ________________________ Date: __________________________ Signed by Mayor: ________________ CITY OF BURLINGTON In the year Two Thousand Twenty ……………………………………………………………………… Resolved by the City Council of the City of Burlington as follows: WHEREAS, in its October 15, 2018 resolution, the Burlington City Council declared that “Burlington 1 That 2 is a diverse community that strives to be a welcoming place to live, work, and visit” and found that “many 3 individuals [have come] forward to express that they feel hurt by the omissions and misrepresentations” in the 4 “Everyone Loves A Parade” mural (“mural”) that is displayed on Leahy Way in the Church St. Marketplace; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, that same resolution established the goal of relocating the mural to somewhere in the city 7 by August 29, 2022, meaning that an earlier removal and storage is permitted if the Council deems it in the 8 public interest; and 9 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Burlington City Council finds it in the public 10 interest to remove the mural before August 29, 2022 due to the continuing hurt that the mural is causing 11 members of the community; and 12 13 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council directs the City Attorney’s Office to notify the artist immediately to satisfy the required 90-day notice period; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council and the Department of Public Works work 15 together and by August 31, 2020 remove the mural to a suitable site in the city for storage until a 16 recommended plan can be developed; and 17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that City departments continue to work together, in consultation with 18 the City Council Parks, Arts & Culture Committee, for a recommendation to this Council for the relocation or 19 disposition of the mural no later than September 30, 2020. 20 21 22 23 lb/EBlackwood/City Council – Removal of EVERYBODY LOVES A PARADE Mural 5/13/20
