Hurricane Preparation – To Do
1.

14-day Supply of Non-perishable Food & Water. Other Items & Medicine.

2.

Emergency plan – Know where you are going. Your place, friends or
relatives, public shelter as a last resort. Remember triple threat (storm
surge/waves, rain/inland flooding and wind). Each threat by itself can prevent
you from sheltering in your home.

3.

Work on House – Low Cost Action Items
a. Clear debris, clutter & junk – in yard & around house.
b. Clear drains, rain gutters, downspouts.
c. Maintain house – prevent wood rot, termite damage with proper
maintenance and inspections!!
d. Add hurricane clips as a first step (generally - houses built on or before
1988 on Oahu, 1990 on Maui and Kauai, 1994 for Hawaii County).
e. For more advanced items – download free Homeowners Handbook to
Prepare for Natural Hazards (4th Edition) and/or attend free virtual
webinar.

4.

Check your insurance coverage – hurricane & flood. These cannot be
purchased during an incoming event.
