The got into a physical altercation with the \ictim, causing \isible injuries. Contact with the defendant was made in front of 1857 23rd St. After probable cause was determined to take the defendant into custody, officers placed him into handcuffs. After being placed in handcuffs, defendant attempted to pull away from officers and refused to get into the rear of the patrol vehicle. Minor force was used to escort subject to the ground and secure him long enough for him to cahn down. Ammunition (.22 Caliber) rounds were located in the subjects backpack as well. He is a Florida conyicted felon and was charged with the above. SCENE Location of Battery: Dixie Ave. Sarasota, Florida 34234 Location of Defendant Resisting Of?cers: In front of 1857 23rd St. Sarasota, Florida 34234 Patrick Carroll (Defendant) Officer Wicinski and myself contacted Carroll in front of 1857 23rd St. Carroll initially stopped for officers and was coo erative. Officers uestioned Carroll to et his side of the altercation. Carroll stated that he went over to residence to pick up some clothes. While he was there, he observed some of his clothes outside on the lawn. When he went to speak to about his clothes, she began yelling and cussing at him, and threatened to call the police. Carroll explained that he packed up some of his belongings and left the residence to avoid further issues. He denied ever putting his hands on her. (Victim) Officer Stanaland contacted at- Dixie Ave. stated that Carroll came over to her residence and told her he wasn?t leaving because his children were there. According to Carroll told her to shut up or he was going to hit her in the mouth. A verbal argument ensued, followed by Carroll grabbing her by her hair.- advised that she then grabbed his to get him off of her, at which oint he rabbed her by her face. Carroll then began swinging at her, at which time she put her arms up to block him. According mi written statement, Carroll threw her on to the ground and began to leave. That is when she called 911. completed a sworn written statement attesting to the above. Of?cer Stanaland observed \isible bruising and swelling on- arms, face, and chest area. Officers contacted Carroll in front of 1857 23rd St. He was wearing a light blue backpack on his back. After determining that probable cause existed to place him into custody for Domestic Battery, Officer Wicinski and myself began to place him into handcuffs. During this time, Carroll began yelling at officers as to why he was being placed into handcuffs and attempted to pull away, walking towards his cousin who pulled up in a blue sedan a few seconds prior. Officers were able to safely place Carroll in handcuffs. Carroll began screaming for his cousin to grab the light blue backpack that he had in his possession. He yelled to his cousin ?Hey grab this bag before they get Officer Wicinski and myself attempted to walk Carroll towards the rear door of my patrol vehicle to conduct a search of his person, at which time he refused to comply. We were able to get him to the door, however he then attempted to turn his body and began screaming in officers face. Carroll then attempted to pull away from us and dropped his bodyweight, attempting to defeat our efforts in securing him to conduct a search of his person. Of?cer Wicinski and myself escorted Carroll to the ground using minimal force. Once on the ground, I conducted a search of Carroll?s person. I located a clear baggie with a green leaf like substance in his front right pocket. This substance also had an odor, consistent to Marijuana. This substance was placed into SPD property for destruction. Once Carroll calmed down, he was placed into the rear of my patrol vehicle and transported to $50 jail without incident. Once at $80 jail, I conducted a search of the backpack that was in his possession. During my search, Carroll uttered to me that there was a metal box of change in the backpack and also four bullets that he found at a construction site. I located these bullets and confirmed that they were .22 Caliber bullets. A criminal history was conducted, which revealed that Carroll was a Florida Conyicted Felon with one felony conviction. Risk Assessment was completed, with- answelin yes to all three questions. She did not want to speak with SPARCC at this moment and did not wish for officers to contact them. was provided with a Victim's Right Brochure and Marsy's Law Pamphlet. Due to this incident occurring in the presence of young children, Officer Wicinski contacted DCF and notified them of the incident_. The ammunition was placed into SPD property as evidence.
