6/10/2020 Xponential Fitness Mail - URGENT: June 1st Health Order Omission URGENT: June 1st Health Order Omission 5 messages Fri, May 29, 2020 at 2:03 PM To: david.scrase@ Cabinet Secretary Dr. Scrase, At a recent press conference, you stated that you welcome conversation and healthy, informed debate about the steps being taken by the state, so I am taking you up on that opportunity. I was incredibly frustrated and disappointed to learn that the new health order taking effect Monday, June 1st, specific to gyms, still prohibits group fitness classes. This leads me to believe there is a fundamental misunderstanding about the boutique fitness industry, and how we differ from a traditional big box gym. My sister Christi Blaschke and I own Pure Barre Albuquerque, which is a boutique fitness facility providing group classes. It is my sincere belief that we have the ability to keep our members safer than a traditional gym facility due to the level of control we have over our space and our equipment. And our members trust us to do this. We have been diligently following all news related to COVID safe practices since we were required to close our doors on March 19th. I am confident that we are prepared to open in a safe manner on June 1st, but let me give you more detail so that I may convince you as well: Members will now be required to complete a "good health" certification in our app at the time they book a class. Staff will wear masks at all times in our facility. Members are encouraged, but not required, to also wear masks while working out (per the guidance from your office related to exercise). Members will be required to stand 6 feet apart or wait in their vehicles outside our studio, until doors are opened 5 minutes prior to class start time to limit time spent in our space. Members will be called forward one at a time to have their temperature taken with a touchless thermometer before entering. Anyone with a temperature above 100.4 degrees (per your COVID safe practices dated 05/28/2020) will be turned away from class. We've added functionality to our mobile app so that members can now check themselves in from their phone, as opposed to stopping at the front desk. Dressing rooms, locker rooms, and our water machine have been closed. Members have been instructed to arrive dressed and ready for class. This reduces touch points and keeps people out of areas they could potentially congregate. Instead, they go directly into an assigned station in our studio. The stations in our studio have been set up to maintain the minimum 6' of proper social distancing. This means we are actually operating at only 33% capacity - even less than the ratio big box gyms have been approved to operate at. Each station has a sanitized mat, set of equipment, and bin for members to place their personal effects, ensuring that none of these items come into contact with our floor or equipment. Members have already been instructed to expect to "pack light" when coming to class. Members stay at their stations and use only their equipment for the entirety of the 45-50 min class. They are dismissed one at a time to ensure proper distance is also maintained when they exit our facility. Instructors have been retrained in giving verbal form cue corrections from a safe distance instead of utilizing hands-on corrections as we had done prior to COVID. We've switched out our soap and hand sanitizers to touchless dispensers. We have stripped our entire facility down to the bare minimum, removing benches, shelving, and the like to eliminate as many touch points as possible. Our staff then lock our facility doors and begin our elevated cleaning procedures, as we've spaced out our class schedule to ensure a minimum of an hour between each class. I'd be happy to provide more detail, but here is a high level summary of the cleaning: All equipment (mats, weights, barres, etc.) are cleaned with Zogics Z800 Antibacterial & Disinfecting gym wipes. These wipes meet the EPA's criteria for use against SARS-Co V-2. If you'd like more information I've linked them here. The lobby, restrooms, door handles, light switches, and all other high touch surfaces will be sanitized with clorox solutions between classes. Hard floors are cleaned and disinfected between classes. https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ik=158d06bef6&view=pt&search=all&permthid=thread-a%3Ar2936164043878757957&simpl=msg-a%3Ar521885003… 1/4 6/10/2020 Xponential Fitness Mail - URGENT: June 1st Health Order Omission Carpets are vacuumed between every class. At the end of each day carpets are sprayed with Vital Oxide disinfectant; a commercial/hospital grade product which kills 99.9% of bacteria and viruses. Again, I'll link here if you'd like to research further. I've attached pictures from our space to help demonstrate everything I've described above, but we would like to invite you to come take a personal tour of our facility. Based on the above information, I respectfully request that you revise the restriction on group fitness and allow Boutique Fitness facilities like our own to begin operations on June 1st. Anything less than that is discriminating against small businesses in favor of major chains. I'm also not sure if you are aware, but your office and this administration are disproportionately hurting a female lead industry - the most recent data available states that our industry is ~75% female owned and operated. I am confident that was not the intent, and look forward to partnering with you to rectify the situation. Thank you in advance for your consideration. We look forward to speaking with you shortly. 8 attachments Station Spacing.jpg 1526K Station Setup.jpg 2249K Front door signage and spacing.jpg 1370K Front door signage.jpg 737K https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ik=158d06bef6&view=pt&search=all&permthid=thread-a%3Ar2936164043878757957&simpl=msg-a%3Ar521885003… 2/4 6/10/2020 Xponential Fitness Mail - URGENT: June 1st Health Order Omission App Class Checkin.jpg 1218K Closed Locker Room.jpg 1260K Closed Dressing Room.jpg 1036K Closed Water Machine.jpg 1091K Scrase, David, HSD Sun, May 31, 2020 at 5:08 PM https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0?ik=158d06bef6&view=pt&search=all&permthid=thread-a%3Ar2936164043878757957&simpl=msg-a%3Ar521885003… 3/4 6/10/2020 Xponential Fitness Mail - URGENT: June 1st Health Order Omission Thanks for sending all this and I appreciate the care you are taking to create a safe exercise space. You don’t mention below how many people will be present in a class, which is the main issue here. I think the current set of orders would allow 4 people and an instructor. [Quoted text hidden] Sun, May 31, 2020 at 5:53 PM To: "Scrase, David, Hi Dr. Scrace, I appreciate you taking the time to review and respond. Maintaining 6’ of distance between each station, including the instructors station, we can fit 6 members and the instructor (so 7 in total). Our max capacity is 22, so this is 32% capacity. May I ask the reason why we would be restricted more than a big box gym? They can operate at 50% capacity, and their members will most certainly violate the 6’ social distancing moving between machines. The “4 plus an instructor” rule feels arbitrary if our space allows us to keep appropriate social distance with 6, so I’m trying to understand (perhaps it would be something we can mitigate if I understood the reasoning). That may seem like a small difference, but in order for us to have enough time between classes to complete the processes I’ve described to you we can hold 24 classes per week. If we allow 6 members per class that means each of our clients has the opportunity to take 1 in person class/week (we are also virtual streaming our classes so they can get the remainder of their workouts from home). If we are limited to 4 members per class then not everyone can attend; this means greater loss of membership for us and a higher likelihood we will go under before we are ever able to reopen our doors. I assure you the health of our members is of the utmost importance to us, but we believe we can protect them while also giving our business a fighting chance to recover from this. Thank you, Jenni [Quoted text hidden] Scrase, David, HSD Sun, May 31, 2020 at 6:18 PM That’s fine. Do 50% then. [Quoted text hidden] Sun, May 31, 2020 at 6:29 PM To: "Scrase, David, HSD" Wonderful!
