CITY OF HONORABLE ARTURO R. GARIN: OFFICE OF THE MAYO June 15, 2020 The Honorable Governor Doug Ducey State of Arizona 1700 W. Washington Street Phoenix AZ 85007 Dear Governor Ducey, I am writing in regards to the increasing high rates of con?rmed cases of that severely impact the health and well?being of our residents and our community. To that end, I am committed to taking any and all necessary steps needed to help prevent the continued spread of this deadly virus. I have been tirelessly advocating that our residents follow the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), including the washing of hands, following social distancing of at least six feet, avoid large gatherings, and wear face coverings when around others. The most signi?cant one of these is the ability for people to wear face masks in public and when social distancing is not possible. We applaud your efforts to encourage people to follow the CDC guidelines but we see that in our community, the message is simply not getting through. The rates of con?rmed cases in our community are growing and we don?t see any signs of the curve flattening anytime soon. I am asking that you provide the necessary authorization for me to mandate the wearing of face coverings whenever our residents are in public or in situations when social distancing is not possible. This mandate, we hope, will greatly increase the number of people wearing face coverings. By mandating that people wear face masks, we hope to slow the spread of the disease and lower the risk of losing more lives as we seek to fully reopen our economy. Sincerely, NORTH GRAND AVENUE NOGALES. AZ 85621 {520) 287-6571 FAX: (520) 287-9159 TDD. (320) 28154
