Opening of Schools 2020 Strategic Considerations for COVID and beyond. Core Principles for Reopening Student Focus Parent Partnerships Excellent Customer Service Safe, clean campuses and learning spaces Provide resources for the social, emotional and physical health of students & staff Fiscally responsible/sustainable solutions Ensure teacher agency and attribution Strong Communication Champion equity and rethink existing learning structures Provide individualized learning and support Plan Overview 85 Decision Tree There will still be active cases of COVID-19 in Fresno County at the time of school opening and throughout the 2020/21 school year. There will not be a vaccine developed in time to impact the 2020-21 school year. Global Assumptions There may be multiple “waves” of virus outbreak and changing guidance from county health officials which will necessitate continuing operational flexibility. The District will be operating in an environment of significantly reduced state revenues. Costs to provide services will be atypical and may potentially be higher than prior years. There will be a cost in dollars, time, supplies and increased operational friction to reduce the risk of transmission There will be parents who will want an alternative to on-campus instruction for part, or the entirety, of the crisis. Operational Assumptions Certain non-core functions of the District may be curtailed, postponed or eliminated. There will be an outbreak of COVID-19 in Fresno that that will require at least a temporary school closure for one or more schools. Schools may need to quickly pivot between delivery models as the COVID risk changes.
