To the President of the Fresno Uni?ed School Board;

My name is Pastor Elias Loera, and I want to ?le an of?cial complaint against
School Board Member Mr. Terry Slatic. I was asked by Pastor Kevin Smith to
meet with him and Mr. Slatic a school board member because Mr. Slatic wanted to
talk to Pastors about the problems with Fresno Uni?ed. Mr. Slatic said he did a
search on me and knew that I was a Pastor and that I coordinated with a large
number of churches in Fresno and Clovis. Mr. Slatic was there as a member of the
Fresno Uni?ed School Board and introduced himself that way. I was there as a
Pastor who leads many Pastors in Fresno and Clovis. .

The meeting was held at Uncle Harry?s New York Bagelry on Shaw and Marks
and included Mr. Slatic, Pastor Kevin Smith, and myself. For 45 minutes M.
Slatic explained to us the problems with Fresno Uni?ed and ?nally arrived at why
he wanted to meet with us. He stated that he was going to ?x Bullard High School
by getting rid of the principal and a vice principal and the 25% of kids causing the
problems for everyone at Bullard. He said they all needed to be sent back south. I
- disagreed with him and told him he was seeing this problem as a ?Major?: getting
rid of bad soldiers and making them someone else?s problem. He said he didn?t
care; he wanted to ?x Bullard High School. I told him the Superintendent would
probably disagree because he was more like a Colonel with a big picture in mind
and would not just shuf?e kids around.

At that moment, Mr. Slatic lost his mind and began cursing at me. He told me I
was a MOTHER who did not know an thing I was talking about. He
said I was not a serious man and that I wasn?t He told me to go back to the
barrio and pastor my little church. He told me I was not as a soldier and that
he had killed over a thousand people in three combat-tours in Afghanistan. He
offered to compare our DD 214?s to show me what a piece of Sh?- I was. He stood
up in a threatening manner and cursed at me and Pastor Kevin for at least 2
minutes before storming out.

I feel that Mr. Slater should not be allowed to represent Fresno Uni?ed in any
capacity. I feel bad for him and feel he needs Anger Management help. In my
opinion, he needs to see a counselor for PTSD. He exploded in a blink of an eye.
He knew he was speaking to two Pastors and a decorated Combat Veteran of
multiple foreign con?icts. He didn?t respect that we were pastors, thatl was a
combat veteran, or that we were two citizens of Fresno. I have a daughter who
graduated from Duncan Polytechnical High School, Ihave a son who graduated
?om Edison, and I have a daughter at Edison High School right now and I am
saddened that this man has any say or vote in what happens in our schools.

 

I took a meeting with a school board member I didn?t know. The objective was to
see how the churches of Fresno could work with the School district. I really regret
taking this meeting. I don?t know him or Wish him any ill will, but as a public
servant he was extremely wrong for cursing us out for not agreeing with him. I do
not know what you, the Fresno Uni?ed School board can do about this. But this
man is an embarrassment to you, the School Board and the proud institution that is
the US Marine Corp. There was no Strength or Honor in him today.
