I am writing this letter as an of?cial complaint against Mr. Terry Slatic, a trustee of Fresno
Uni?ed School District. At Mr. Slatic?s request I arranged an appointment with Pastor Eli Loera.
Mr. Slatic indicated that he would like to meet with pastors to discuss issues related to Fresno
Uni?ed School District. Pastor Loera graciously agreed to the meeting based on my declaration
that Mr. Slatic wanted to hear from and speak to pastors as a means of working toward the
betterment of the education offered by the district. That meeting took place on Tuesday, March
11, 2019 at approximately 7:30 am. We met at Uncle Harry?s Bagels on West Shaw Avenue.

While we waited for Pastor Loera to join us I informed Mr. Slatic about who Pastor Loera was
and his role as the leader of the pastors clusters in the Fresno Clovis area. I suggested to Mr.

Slatic that if he wanted to meet with pastors the person to speak with ?rst was Pastor Loera. I

previously informed Mr. Slatic that Pastor Loera was also a veteran, having served our country
honorably and with distinction.

Pastor Loera and I listened to Mr. Slatic express his viewpoint about problems in Fresno Uni?ed
and I pressed him to talk about proposed solutions. Mr. Slatic suggested that the way to deal
with discipline problems was to remove administrators and to send troublemakers south. Pastor
Loera expressed his disagreement with Mr. Slatic?s proposal and Mr. Slatic became increasingly
agitated and began making personal attacks on Pastor Loera and his military record. Mr. Slatic
suggested that Pastor Loera should go back to the barrio and to his little church. Mr. Slatic
resorted to personal invective and foul language in his attack on Pastor Loera, ultimately
declaring that Pastor Loera and I were part of the problem, in the strongest possible terms.

I am disappointed in Mr. Slatic?s inappropriate language, his inability to control his temper, his
virulent attacks on people that do not agree with him and the racist remarks directed at Pastor
Loera. Mr. Slatic came to the meeting as a trustee of Fresno Uni?ed School District and wasted
an opportunity to engender good will, choosing instead to allow anger to direct his behavior. He
embarrassed himself in a public place and caused me to regret inviting Pastor Loera, a person of
the highest integrity and for whom I have the greatest respect, to the meeting. Mr. Slatic?s
behavior was unconscionable, inexcusable and reprehensible. When I previously met with Mr.
Slatic he did not display such behavior and I came to believe he was a man who was willing to
admit his mistakes and learn from them. I now know that I was wrong.

Ibelieve that Mr. Slatic should not continue to be a trustee of Fresno Uni?ed School District. I
believe his behavior indicates a need for him to seek counseling. I believe he has brought
disrepute on himself and the school district. Sadly, I voted for Mr. Slatic when he was running
for the position of trustee. I believed he would work hard to make Fresno Uni?ed a better and
more responsive school district. I would not and will not vote for him again. I hope he will have
the maturity to resign and seek counseling.
