r, 2M STATE OF NIICI-IIGAN WHITMER OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR GARLIN GILCHRIST II GOVERNOR LANSING LT. GOVERNOR October 9, 2019 Alice C.C. Huling, Counsel Campaign for Accountability 611 Ave., #337 Washington, DC. 20003 Dear Ms. Huling, Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding state funding for Real Alternatives. I am grateful for your correspondence and the opportunity to respond. I did not propose including funding for Real Alternatives in my 2019 Executive Budget Proposal. When it was given an appropriation by the legislature, I took action and vetoed this appropriation for Real Alternatives because Michiganders deserve comprehensive family planning programs that are evidence-based and support a person?s full range of reproductive health options. I ?rmly believe that these very personal decisions need to be made by patients and their doctors. I am committed to protecting their legal rights to make choices about their bodies and medical care. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with me. On January 1, 2019, I took an oath to serve the state of Michigan, and I am committed to building bridges ?om state government to real Michiganders. Please do not hesitate to contact me again about any issue of importance to you. Sincerely, Gretchen Whitmer Governor of Michigan (517) 335-7858 BE: SMB
