To: Chairman, Memorials and Gifts Advisory Board

Subj: Naming of Superintendent's Quarters-

l. The quarters in which the Superintendent now resides
serves not only as residence for the Superintendent's
family but also as representational quarters for official
guestsand functions at the Academy. In this latter
capacity, it serves also as a repository for works of

art and historical significance. To refer to the-house
simply as the Superintendent's House.neither correctly
identifies nor properly addresses the true stature of

the building. A suitable identification for the house
should he sought. - 

2. In honor of the Academy's first Superintendent, I

would propose the name Buchanan House for the Board's
consideration.

3. Please present the Board's recommendation to me, and

if appropriate, prepare the necessary correspondence to
achieve that recommendation. i
