AMAS Shiley audit Subject: AMAS Shiley audit From: Brad Racino Date: 3/3/20, 8G12 PM To: rweinreb@ucsd.edu CC: dbrenner@ucsd.edu Good evening Dr. Weinreb and Dr. Brenner, I'm emailing to give you a heads up that I'll be writing a story about the September 2019 AMAS audit of Shiley and its findings. Though I've reached out to UCSD's communications team for answers to specific questions, I'd also like to ask each of you personally for an interview about this audit. Notably, I'd like to learn why COC disclosures were never collected and how a vice chairman was able to use more than $100,000 in research funds to pay for his MBA. I'd also like to ask what measures have been taken since the audit to improve operations and, if you're willing, a tour of the facility to learn what physicians are currently researching. This would provide readers with a comprehensive view of the institute and not just the negatives documented in this audit. Would either of you be open to speaking with me about this or setting up a tour? Thank you in advance for your help and consideration.
