5675 Spring Garden Road, Suite B6   Halifax, Nova Scotia B3J 1H1  hal-con.com        To the Hal-Con community of fans, geeks, nerds, and friends:    We have made the difficult decision to cancel Hal-Con 2020.     To us—and to many of you—Hal-Con is more than just an annual event. It’s a  celebration of all of the wonderful geeky communities that thrive in this city, in this  country, and on this planet. It’s a place to be yourself. It’s a place to be a character  entirely unlike yourself. It’s a chance to meet old heroes and discover new ones,  whether they’re up on the main stage or waiting next to you in line.    To us, Hal-Con is home, and this hurts.    We are so proud of the work that Nova Scotians have done to flatten the curve and help  stop the spread of COVID-19. Like many of you, we feel hopeful about the next few  months. But we know that h oping isn’t enough. We also have to h elp by keeping our  attendees and our communities safe, and that means—after consultation with our  venue—choosing not to bring thousands of people together in close contact this year.    Here’s the good news: this gives us extra time to plan an incredible event for 2021. We  already have exciting guests booked for next year and we can’t wait to share all the  details with you! The next Hal-Con will be held October 22-24, 2021, a t the Halifax  Convention Centre. We will make additional announcements when we know the status  of other events we hold throughout the year. We’re also planning some fun virtual  events, so stay tuned to our social media channels and our website for details.     Thank you, Hal-Con community, for your ongoing support. Over the past ten years,  we’ve grown ten times—from 1,500 to over 15,000 attendees—and we couldn’t have  done it without you. Stay safe, wash your hands, listen to the experts, and we’ll see you  next year.    Yours,    The Hal-Con Board of Directors    P.S. If you already booked a hotel for the 2020 convention dates with a special Hal-Con  rate, the booking will be automatically cancelled without penalty. If you booked  accommodations independently of Hal-Con, you are responsible for cancelling your  reservation and any penalties that may be associated with cancellation.
