Reopening Schools CENTRAL UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Revised July 13, 2020 OVERVIEW ● ● Organized into four stages of reopening Aligned with CDC and Fresno DPH guidelines and mandates Student Focused Solutions Safe & Clean Schools Family & Community Partnerships Individualized Support Fiscally Responsible Planning Assumptions & Considerations 1 Providing a safe environment for students and staff is paramount. 2 The virus that causes COVID-19 will remain in circulation until a vaccine is developed and widely used. 3 At this time, mitigation of the spread of COVID-19 is the best protection. 4 Experts believe there will be a “second wave” of COVID-19 infection in late fall and through the winter. 5 Students and staff with significant health conditions will continue to be vulnerable towards COVID-19 infection. 6 The economic impact of the pandemic will have significant and lasting impacts on schools. 7 Student learning outcomes going into the 2020-21 year will be uneven and vary broadly. I will send my child to school with any safety requirements required by the district. 18.5% If offered by the school I would like to continue distance learning/learning at home (teacher led). I will enroll my student with an online home school (parent provides home schooling). . Undecided at this time. Reopening Stages NOTE: Guidance tied to SB 98 when operating in Stage 1 or 2 has not been provided as of this presentation. Movement between stages is based on FCDPH & CDC guidelines to ensure safety of students and staff. Stage 2: Distance Learning Plus Onsite Support Our goal is to design equitable and safe learning environments for ALL students in CUSD! Information released Monday, July 13 has prompted our inclusion of Stage 2 for consideration. ★ All students participate in distance learning until FDPH / CDE recommend safe reopening ★ Onsite appointments: ○ Distribution of technology - 1:1 student:device ○ Check-out textbooks / workbooks ○ Technical Assistance, as needed, to ensure students can fully engage in learning ○ Wellness Screening and Support ○ Delivery of special services in small group setting, when appropriate Stage 2 - Safe and Clean Schools In alignment with Health Department / CDC guidelines intended to reduce the spread of COVID-19 Face Coverings Required for staff and students Wellness Physical Distance Daily Health Screener Well Child and Sick Child Areas 6 ft in rooms Reduced bus riders Disinfect Small Groups Appointments, when appropriate Hand washing Frequent day cleaning of touch points Nightly disinfecting Alternative School Option What can you do if you are not comfortable with your child(ren) returning to school once it is safe to do so? ● ● ● ● ● ● All online - this is a new Central school TK-12 online curriculum provided Curriculum aligned to standards taught in Central schools Parent Role: guide homeschool instruction; curriculum is already prepared Teacher Role: monitor progress so students stay on schedule Students can request to transfer back to a traditional Central school at semester or end of year Timeline Staff will continue to monitor health and safety guidelines and will make necessary adjustments, with a goal of returning everyone to school once it is safe to do so.
