IndyPL eResources Available with a Library Card Below please find some highlighted resources of special interest to K-12 schools and their students who have library cards. Axis 360 Students have access to tens of thousands of ebooks and eaudiobooks through Axis 360. The majority of schools will login to Axis 360 via one of three IndyPL URLS. Kids: https://indyplkids.axis360.baker-taylor.com/ Teens: https://indyplteens.axis360.baker-taylor.com/ Combined kids and teens: http://indypl.axis360.baker-taylor.com/ Librarians prefer this site because it shows everything. Schools may prefer one of the other two sites because they don’t show everything. Schools that participate in Axis 360 Community Share have a school URL and either upload their students’ library card numbers or use Clever for authentication. Streaming video On IndyPL’s Download and Streaming page (https://www.indypl.org/books-moviesmusic/download-stream), both Kanopy and Hoopla offer movies and TV shows, most educational. Kanopy offers documentaries for high school classes. Kanopy also has a Kids collection available for unlimited use during the school closures. Online databases For students needing to do research, there is a rich variety of research sources to be found at https://www.indypl.org/research. Databases may have a subject focus or an audience focus and include information gleaned from magazines, journals, websites, newspapers, and reference works. Databases have different funding sources. Some are provided by the State Library or by IndyPL. Databases used often by high school students are funded by the Marion County Internet Library, part of the Central Indiana Community Foundation’s Library Fund. Provided below are descriptions of three databases of particular interest to schools. National Geographic: IndyPL subscribes to the online databases from National Geographic for Kids (http://ezproxy.ilibrary.org/login? url=http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/imcpl_indy?db=NGMK) and National Geographic Virtual Library. Both contain magazines, videos and ebooks that can be used for research or recreational reading. Note that the ebooks may be read simultaneously, so a teacher could assign a whole class to read a book about penguins or alternative energy, for example.
