Lauderdale County School System 2020-2021 Return To School Plan Revised Introduction The Lauderdale County School System is committed to providing for the health and safety of our students, staff, families, and community stakeholders. It is a top priority. As the 2020-2021 school year is upon us, the beginning of this school year is different with many shifting priorities and changing information. We appreciate your patience and working with us to find the best options for our students and families. The school plans will be re-evaluated weekly. We are looking for a sustained downward trend of COVID-19 cases in Lauderdale County. Important Changes: ● ● ● August 24, 2020 — New, revised first day of school for students (Approved by the Board of Education on July 31, 2020) Traditional/in-person, on-campus learning changes (see chart below) Virtual learning via Edgenuity (remains an option with a first-semester commitment) but parents/guardians who have registered for the Lauderdale County Virtual School have an option to come back to traditional /in-person, on-campus school. Parents/Guardians will be contacted by LCSS staff about the options. If you have questions not answered in the chart below, please send an email to info@lcschools.org​. Plans for Pre-K students will be finalized in cooperation with the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education pending its release of guidelines. Community Schools Empowering Students for Success Date: July 31, 2020 Traditional/on-campus school changes Students will be divided into two groups, Group “A” and Group “B” as determined by each school. Siblings will attend traditional school together. ● Mondays/Tuesdays — Students in Group “A” will attend traditional/on-campus learning and students in Group “B” will participate in remote, at-home learning. ● Wednesday — All students will learn remotely using e-learning this day. We will clean classrooms and have online office hours. ● Thursdays/Fridays — Students in Group “B” will attend traditional/on-campus learning and students in Group “A” will participate in remote, at-home learning. Virtual, at-home school changes ● Students whose Parents/Guardians have registered for the Lauderdale County Virtual School will have an option to come back to traditional/on-campus school. Parents/Guardians will be contacted by LCSS staff about your options. On July 29, 2020, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey extended her state mask order through August 31, 2020, at 5 p.m. ​The requirement for masks at school includes all staff, employees, and students in grades 2-12. There are medical exceptions. The LCSS has a collective commitment to support a healthy school community at all schools and sites. We are following the orders and guidelines from: ● Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) ● Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) ● Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) Cleaning and Disinfecting ● ● ● Schools and campuses will be cleaned and disinfected frequently following ADPH and CDC guidelines to include regularly disinfecting frequently-used items and surfaces. Wednesday will be a deep-cleaning day. In the event of a school or building closure, impacted campuses will be cleaned and disinfected. Personal Hygiene Safety ● ● ● ● Following the state face covering guidelines Social distance (at least 3 to 6 feet away from other people not in your household) Frequently wash your hands Use hand sanitizer often Water Fountains Water drinking fountains will be closed. Students and staff are encouraged to bring a personal, individual water bottle​. Food and Child Nutrition Program School breakfasts and lunches will be served on the traditional learning days.
