FARMVILLE DETENTION CENTER 508 WATERWORKS ROAD FARMVILLE, VIRGINIA 23901 July 8, 2020 Mayor David Whitus Town of Farmville 116 North Main Street Farmville, Virginia 23901 Dear Mayor Whitus, ICA-Farmville deeply appreciates your continued support, and the continued support of the Town Council, of the Farmville Detention Center. The recent pandemic has proved to be a challenging situation for the facility. We have been working hard to mitigate risk and keep the individuals in our care, our staff, and the greater Farmville community, safe. We have three negative pressure rooms, open dormitories for quarantine, a medical staff of 29 individuals, and have been able to provide our entire staff with full PPE gear, and each detainee with 8 masks. Due to the open housing layout of our facility, and a significantly reduced population, there is adequate of space for individuals to social distance. We understand how difficult a time this can be and how high anxieties can run so we have done our best to be as transparent, and communicate as often as possible, with detainees. We also have our medical staff briefing detainees on proper hygiene, sanitation and on the need to wear a mask, daily. Luckily, we have been able to keep some dormitories open and empty, which allows us the ?exibility to move populations that have come into contact with a positive testing individual into these dorms. We have implemented twice daily screening by nursing staff of every detainee in the facility. Detainees also have the opportunity to report and receive over-the-counter medication to manage an additional two times per day, giving detainees four opportunities per day to interact with a nurse in-person, and request medical treatment. During these interactions our medical staff and nurses brief each detainee about the current situation in the facility and the steps we?re taking to remediate it, along with procedures each individual should follow to help mitigate the spread. Additionally, our facility physician is in the facility over 50 hours per week and personally evaluates every detainee on a daily basis. We are in the process of testing every individual in our facility and our staff. We continue to work closely with the Prince Edward County Health Department to ensure the individuals in our facility get the care, testing and communication necessary to help stem the spread. The PE Health Department has coordinated with us on a near daily basis since March and has been very instrumental in providing us assistance and guidance on managing our population.
