Honors College is not a primary academic unit, but rather a supplementary co-curricular program offered to select students at Texas Christian University, and 5 6 7 8 Whereas: The House of Representatives should accurately represent the student body, and while twelve percent of the student body is in the Honors College, more than half of the House of Representatives is comprised of students who are affiliated with the college in addition to their primary academic program, and 9 10 11 12 Whereas: In addition, as the current apportionment of seats stands, students within the Honors College receive triple representation from their class, academic, and honors representatives whereas non-honors students only receive double representation, and 13 14 15 Whereas: By eliminating seats currently reserved for Honors representatives, every TCU undergraduate student will be equally represented in terms of seat allocation, and 16 17 18 19 Whereas: Reducing barriers of entry to the House of Representatives will communicate that SGA strives to equitably represent the student body, and that as an organization we are willing to critically look at ourselves and make changes; therefore, 20 Let it be enacted by the House of Student Representatives at Texas Christian University: 21 22 23 (1) That the Student Body Constitution be amended according to the attached appendix and be enacted for the 107th session of the House of Representatives pending the passage of a student body referendum. 24 CC:
