To whom may be concerned, As a collective of executive managers, representing a significant proportion of the Rotorua Accommodation sector, we write to express our full support of CranloNorx Rotorua and to emphasise to government partners the importance of continuing to invest in the event in order to ensure that it continues to deliver for Rotorua and New Zealand into the future. We have witnessed significant growth of domestic and international mountain biking tourists coming to Rotorua over the past 6 years and hold the firm belief that Crankworx Rotorua has been a primary catalyst of this growth. Indeed, it is our view that there is no better destination marketing tool for Mountain Biking in Rotorua and New Zealand. As a collective, Rotorua?s Accommodation partners have contributed direct support to the event of more than $320,000 since 2015 (approx. $53,000 per year). These contributions are evidence of our own commitment and belief in the importance of Crankworx Rotorua to our region and we are committed to supporting the event into the future. It is our sincere hope that the Rotorua Lakes Council continues to invest, in both MTB related infrastructure (to continue grow the local proposition) and in Crankworx Rotorua directly, to ensure that we as a region continue to reap the significant rewards of hosting this significant major event in our city and being a genuine International MTB Mecca for many years to come. I most certainly hope that the council will continue to support those who also support the community in this way, by underpinning and supporting the return and continued success of Crankworx Rotorua. It can only be received as an exciting and promising contributor to our recovery from the challenges of the year and COVID 19. To not continue would be viewed as defeatist and pessimistic. A disaster for our city. We see buyers and investors attracted to our city directly as a result of the Crankworx event. This effect is not unique to the event itself and the period of time the event is running. The effects, from our standpoint are continuous year round. Especially the fact that Crankworx is the flagship of our destination as a Mountain Biking mecca! On a personal note, I myself invested in Rotorua, having come from Auckland, I invested in a business and in property solely due to my desire to enjoy what Rotorua offers in the Mountain biking and related events. This has led to myself, my family and my business contributing to the city in many other ways. As a business owner and having supported the event as a silver level sponsor for three years, we view the event as commercially beneficial to the city and the unknown, unmeasured peripheral benefits that the Crankworx event brings to Rotorua is almost impossible to calculate. Yes, even at a real estate level! While I do not know the intimate details of where things are at, I would like to say that I see the continuation of the event in Rotorua as absolutely critical to our city and our community. I would just like to express my support for the team at Crankworx Rotorua and for your application to the council. Despite strong response to Covid19 the viability of Crankworx in 2021 and beyond is now under significant threat due to commercial and border challenges. The Rotorua Mountain Bike Club philosophy is ?to bring the exhilaration of mountain biking to as many people as possible and to continue to make Rotorua a must?ride destination for mountain bikers from around the country and the world.? Crankworx has firmly put Rotorua and New Zealand on the map as a key global mountain bike destination. Crankworx Rotorua has become an iconic event on the NZ Major Event Calendar over the past 6 years and is regarded as an event that delivers for its partners, communities and NZ. Rotorua was selected as a Crankworx destination not only because of its reputation as a premier riding destination but also because of the cultural aspects that make it a very special place. Mountain biking is supported by local lwi and Crankworx weaves NZ and Maori culture seamlessly into the event, broadcasting our culture globally. Riders rave about Rotorua with its professionally built, master crafted trails and fantastic scenery. Locals have been keen to showcase these assets to the rest of the world and this has been possible because of Crankworx. Crankworx content is seen by over 12 million global viewers via live broadcasts and online platforms. The benefits to Rotorua have been far reaching. Crankworx has given Rotorua and NZ world?wide recognition. To lose this event would have a huge impact on Rotorua?s economy and the tourism sector. Rotorua has benefited through social media marketing from the big name athletes with millions of views generated. Local businesses are boosted financially over the weeks around Crankworx The economic impact of Crankworx for Rotorua and NZ has been huge with top riders and support crew spending an average of as many as 40 nights in NZ in previous years. Many pro?riders make NZ their base. Many Club members are volunteers at Crankworx. The Crankworx volunteer programme is a rallying point for the community to unite under a common purpose to ensure Rotorua puts its best foot forward. Locals love being part of this programme and look forward to it each year, many taking time off work to volunteer. Crankworx creates opportunities for emerging local athletes, many of whom are members, to compete in a variety of events with the best riders in the world. If Crankworx does not continue this opportunity would be lost. Crankworx includes a number of community based programmes: 0 Free ?locals? days provide locals with the chance to experience an international event, see world class riders compete and view mountain biking at its best. Residents turn out in their thousands. 0 Share the Ride: This is an initiative which the is involved with that has come about as a result of Crankworx. The programme helps local underprivileged children learn to ride bikes and at the end they receive a brand new bike which they are presented with at Crankworx. The ?Educate? programme enables students to gain NCEA credits. Daily educational tours are run for these school groups to assist them to complete the assessments. Kidsworx is run in conjunction with Crankworx. The Kidsworx arena is designed for children 12 and under to ride trails, pump tracks and obstacles. This zone offers demo bikes, daily activities and coaching. Kidsworx is hugely popular and attracts hundreds of children each year. This helps the by encouraging children to get into mountain biking. Many Club members assist with the Kidsworx programme. The ?Kidsworx Events? allows kids aged 6 to 12 years to enter in Kidsworx challenger events or races. If the above activities were to discontinue it would be a huge loss for the Rotorua community and the The wants the event to stay due to the benefits it delivers including seeing an increase in community engagement in mountain biking and a growth in the number of women and youth participating in the sport. The harsh reality is that if Crankworx Rotorua is not able to obtain the necessary financial support from Council and Government then Crankworx may be lost to Rotorua and NZ. Losing Crankworx Rotorua would be devastating both to the Club and the Rotorua Community. Barbara Jenks . g. j" Secretary of the 0276179731 Signed by committee members: Heidi Lichtwark CEO Sport Bay of Plenty Ngā Mihi, Crankworx Rotorua is a key event and we are proud to be a key supporter from the beginning. If this event was no longer held in Rotorua, we would lose a unique opportunity to continue to have a positive impact on participation. Since its inception, Crankworx Rotorua has created opportunities in many ways. Through our lens, these include encouraging those who may have barriers to participate to be able to be involved, and to inspire and motivate many others to give riding bikes a try. This event is unique in that the participants range from the best in the world to beginners. It is a showcase of what Rotorua and New Zealand has to offer and we know that sporting events help to build vibrant communities. This is what Crankworx Rotorua does, not just for Rotorua but for New Zealand. Events like Crankworx Rotorua play an important role to provide incentive and opportunity to many in the community by showcasing different disciplines and across multiple age groups. The huge variety of events means that there is something for everyone including the Share the Ride programme, Kidsworx events for those budding riders, Kidsworx arena for those who want to give it a go and pick up some new skills. Further to the actual participation events, is the opportunity for New Zealanders to be part of an amazing global event and be inspired and connected to what Rotorua has to offer in terms of Mountain Biking and being outdoor and active. Since the beginning, Sport Bay of Plenty has been a huge supporter of Crankworx Rotorua. Being a Physical education Teacher here in Rotorua, I am writing this letter in support of Crankworx Rotorua as it has helped shape our city into what it is today, a more vibrant, healthier and more energetic town from what it was 5 years ago. Justin Hutton Nga mihi, We would like to voice our support of the event in the hope that local Council and NZ government continue to invest in the event in order to ensure that it continues to be hosted here in Rotorua through (at least) to the end of the current license in 2027. It has become clear to us over the past 6 years that Mountain Biking is a key to our citys tourist value proposition and (particularly in the post-covid era) our economic recovery, and that Crankworx Rotorua has played a key role in putting our destination on the map. We have been very impressed with the results Crankworx has achieved with getting Rotorua in the international spotlight and raising the profile of Rotorua as one of the Mountain Biking meccas of the world. As part of this we have had a contestable fund to support events that we think can contribute to ours goals. Crankworx have been successful in applying for Partnership funds for the last 2 years (and previously under the earlier iteration of the partnership before it became an incorporated society) Currently we have a collective of 82 members with a mixture of activities, hospitality, accommodation providers and attractions from within and around the Rotorua region, representing a large portion of the local tourism economy. Companies contribute financially to achieve the aims above. The purpose of the Partnership is to increase growth in visitor spend and increase occupancy levels in Rotorua as well as improving perceptions of Rotorua as a visitor destination. As a board, and with support from our members, we have financially contributed to Crankworx Rotorua over the past few years. The Rotorua Tourism Investment Partnership (RTIP) is an incorporated society. Dear Rotorua Lakes Council;
