West Lafayette Community School Corporation 1130 North Salisbury Street • West Lafayette, Indiana 47906-2447 (765) 746-1602 • FAX (765) 746-1644 • www.wl.k12.in.us August 27, 2020 Dear WLCSC Families, The Tippecanoe County Health Department has notified the West Lafayette Community School Corporation of its first positive COVID-19 test by a staff member. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines a close contact as anyone within six feet of a confirmed case for more than 15 minutes. Through tracing procedures, the administration has determined that the staff member was not in close contact with students and other staff members. The staff member and family are in quarantine. If the staff member had been in close contact with others, the administration would be contacting those individuals. However, no close contacts for this staff member within WLCSC were identified. WLCSC will continue employing extensive measures to keep students, staff and families as safe as possible during this time. As a reminder, families should not send their students to school if they have a pending test results, a confirmed COVID-19 case in their home, or if the student is not feeling well. WLCSC’s revised reopening plan can be found at https://www.wl.k12.in.us/handouts-forms-flyers/school-board-information/1300-wlcscreopening-plan/file. Please review page 16 for the updated guidance provided by the Indiana State Health Department. Future communications to families will only be made by school building administration to close contacts of an identified positive COVID-19 case for a WLCSC staff member or student. The administration and staff will continue working closely with the Tippecanoe County Health Department to monitor cases and to ensure WLCSC’s plans are up to date. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to provide a safe learning environment for our students and staff. Sincerely, Dr. Rocky Killion Superintendent of Schools The West Lafayette Community School Corporation
