At approximately 0025 hours. my adjacent sector unit 514A transmitted" via radio that they were in pursuit of a suspected DWI vehicle on Station Rd.. proceeded eastbound on Montauk Hwy in the direction of the pursuit. Unit 514A updated via radio that the vehicle they were pursuing had tumed onto Brookhaven Av, and proceeding eastbound I continued in their direction, turning northbound onto Bellport Ave.. Th suspect vehicle then accelerated towards me while going southbound on Beiiport Ave. and forced' me off of the road onto the adjacent curb and onto the lawn. My vehicle spun 180 degrees around and ended up facin southbound. i rejoinedthe pursuit as the suspect vehicle swerved and collided with the passenger side of U514-A. in an attempt to avoid colliding with theisuspect vehicle, I swerved into a side lot yard, striking a parked vehicle. i observed the suspect. a black male in his late teens to early twenties with short hir, approximately 5'10" medium build wearin a white shirt fleing trom the crash site on foot. He proceeded westbound through the side and rear yards of 500 block Bellport Ave.. I observed the suspect holding and concealing a silver metallic object in his waistband and transmitted over the radio words to the effect. i renatter PO Larose and the suspect westbound through the wooded rear yards between Beliport Ave. and Agarnemnon Ave.. emerged onto Agamemnon Ave. and I witnessed the suspect fleeing into a yard on the west side of the street. i entered the yard on the south side of that residence and again advised PO Larose that the suspect appeared to have a weapon concealed in his waistband. While searching the rear yard I saw the suspect standing next to a tree few feet into the woodline west of the yard just beyond a low chain link fence approximately 4 feet high. I pproached the fence and shined my flashlight on him. He screamed 'and tumed towards me holding his right hand down behind his right hip. i gave him several verbal commands to show me his hands and he refused to comply. He responded by making-loud rowiing noise and yelling incoherentiy. I recognized the suspect at this time as Kevin Turner. known to violent and who had previously stabbed someone in the past, He stopped towards me and pulled a silver knife with a blade approximately 5 inches in length from the right side of his waistband. Fearing for my life and safety I drew my handgun and ordered him to "drop'the knife or I va'll shoot you". The suspect repeatedly refused to comply with my commands and continued' yelling irately at me. PO Larosa approached from in adjacent yard at which time i gave the suspect another command to drop the knife which he obeyed. i then bolstered my weapon and reached out to grab the suspect to take him into custody but he punched me in the head with his fist. P0 Larosa then approached the suspect to assist m. I grabbed the subject around the arm and head and pulled him over the fence at which time the suspect. PO Larosa and I ended up on the ground. I tried to draw my pepper spray but misdirected It towards PO Lsrosa and into the ground. The suspect continued to refuse numerous verbal commands to cease lighting. Several times he attempted to grab P0 Larosa's holstered weapon. in order to subdue the suspocll struck him with my fists about the body and head until PO Larosawas able to get handcuffs onto him. After being handcuffed the suspect tried to get up several times and screamed "fuck you, fuck you. fuck you" repeatedly. I noticed that the suspect had blood on his face and a swollen eye. lwas then loaded onto a backboard and transported by South Country Ambulance to Stony Brook Hospital due to headlneck/back pain. dizziness, vomiting and nosebleed. lw-as treated and released at approximately 0630 hours. I was doubled with P0 Michael Richardson who was the passenger while I was driving. Al pproximately 0022 hours we observed a black SUV swenring and driving erratically through a stop sign at the corner of Post Ave and Patchogue Ave. The black Suv made a left onto Patchogue Ave and headed west. At this point. Iactivated my emergency lights and siren and attempted to pull over the vehicle. The vehicle continued driving. making a right onto Michigan Ave heading north. The vehicle stopped. I opened my door and began to exit my vehicle. fonca I did this the black SUV vehicle sped off driving north on Michigan Ave. I returned to my vehicle and began to follow. The black SUV began speeding in axes of 60 MPH-. and erratically going through stop signs. Once getting to Hampton Ave. the vehicle mde a right heading east to Station Rd. As the vehicle approached the intersection. the black SUV drove Into oncoming traitic. forcing a northbound vehicle to swerve across the double line to avoid a head on collision. The SUV then drove onto the sidewalk while continuing southbound on Station Rd. The vehicle then crossed back over the double lines into the southbound lane. once getting to Brooltheven Ave, the vehicle made a left heading east. The vehicle then made a right onto Bellport Ave heading south. At this point P0 Kennedl Hamilton #2709. who was in unit 515. was heading north on Bellport Avg, As the two cars approached. the black SUV attempted to collide bed on by speeding up and swerving at PO Hamilton's car. PO Hamilton was forced to swerve off the road to avoid a head on collision. The suspect vehicle then drove onto the front lawn of the houses located on the east side of Bellport Ave .The vehicle struck a garbage can. a mailbox, and a street sign. As we continued to pursue the vehicle southbound on Bellport Ave, it crashed into the passenger side of our police vehicle. The driver of the vehicle exited his vehicle and ran onto the hood and roof of the police vehicle and tied in a westbound direction to the rear of our vehicle into the backyard _ofa house on Bellport Ave. exited my vehicle and began chasing the suspect on foot. I ran into the rear of a house on Bellport Ave and saw the suspect runnin northbound through the rear yards. I saw him hop over the ten and into the rear yardof the house on the southwest comer of Patchogue Ave and Bellport Ave. As the defendant we running. he was holding the waistband of his pants with his right hand asii he was concealing a weapon. I continued to run after him as he ran towards Patchogue Ave. As I "continued to chase the defendant westbound on Patchoue Ave; I momentarily lost sight of him as he entered the woods. The suspect than reappeared in the woods heading southbound. As I approached the woods. I once again lost sight of the suspect. Before I entered the woods I listened to see ii I could hear the suspect. While was listening. I herd -PO Hamilton yelling commands to the suspect "Show me your hands! Show me your hands! Drop the weapon!" I hopped the fence and started running southbound through the woods toward the sound of PO Hamilton's voice. As I get closer. I could see that P0 Hamilton had his weapon out and pointed at the suspect. The suspect was yelling and grunting incoherently. PO Hamilton ordered him to drop the weapon 3 or 4 times. He lunged toward PO Hamilton and attempted to strike him in the face. I ran towards th suspect. I deployed my ASP nd struck him In the legs to prevent him from assaultin PO Hmilton. The suspect then turned towards me and started striking me In the face, cheat and legs. Not knowing if the suspect was still armed. and fearing for the life of myself and PO Hamilton, I grabbed the suspect and pushed him over the fence causing myself and Po Hamilton tofall onto the suspect. The suspect continued to resist arrest by kicking and punching the and reached for my gun. Once the defendant did this, I shouted to PO Hamilton "He is going for my guni" I struck his hand away and deployed my OC spray which did not stop the uspect from resisting arrest. Again fearing for my life and the life of PO Hamilton, I began sinking the head and body with my fists in order to gainecontrol. Eventually I was able to force the defendants arms behind his back and place him in handcuffs. We then called for rescu and secured the scene. Po Hamilton and I were flten transported to Stonybrook Univeristv Hospital for treatment of ourinlu_ries. The vehide continued west on Petchogue Ave and 'then made a right tum onto Michigan Ave and stopped. As the undersigned and P0 Leitosa exited our vehicle the defendant vehicle lied "north on Michigan Ave. PO LaRosa followed the vehicle north on Michigan Ave which was travelling at a speed of approximately 60 MPH. notified the 5th dispatchervla the police radio that we had a vehicle that was refusing to pull over. The vehicle failed to stop for a stop sign at Brookhaven Ave' and made a right tum onto Hampton Ave. The defendant vehicle continued east on Hampton Ave. failed to stop at the stop sign at Station Rd.. and made a wide right turn onto Station Rd.. traveliin into oncoming traffic. The defendant vehicle. new traveling south in the northbound Inc of Station nerly collided head on with "a entail pickup truck.{The defendant then drove onto the sidewalk of the east side of Station Rd.. and mde a left tum onto Brooitheven Ave traveling set. The defendant vehicle accelerated and made a right tum onto Beilport Ave. falling to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Brookhaven Ave. The defendant increased speed he traveled southbound on Beilport Ave nd swerved into the northbound lanes in the direction of marked unit 515 which was being operated northbound. with the emergency lights activated. by P0 Hamilton defendant vehicle accelerated. narrowly missing a headon collision with unit 515. The defendant vehicle then struck a mailbox and street sign on the east side of Beiipcrt Ave near the intersection with Patchogue Ave. The defendant vehicle swerved belt to the southbound side of Bliport Ave nearly colliding with unit 514. As P0 LaRosa continued pursuing the vehicle on Bellport Ave it swerved sharply to its left and struck the passenger side of unit 514. The defendant then opened the driver side door of his vehicle. jumped onto the hood and roof of unit 514 and fled in a westbound direction to the rear of our unit. I was unable to exit the vehicle because the defendants vehicle was in contact with the passenger side door. When i did exit through the drivers side doors few moments later. PO LaRosa and PO Hamilton were out of my sight. I styed with the police vehicles and the defendants vehicle on Bellport Ave until backup units arrived. Approximately an hour later I was asked by Sgt.Guem'si to respond to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital to complete the arrest paperwork. Present at the meeting were DETECTIVE SERGEANT ROBERT DOYLE #463, POLICE OFFICER LOUIS #4339 PEA Delegate, POLICE OFFICER NOEL #4906 PEA Vice President, POLICE OFFICER MICHAEL LLOYD BERKO PEA attorney and'the undersigned."* OFFICER RICHARDSEN provided the following information: He relayed the route of the vehicle pursuit with the black, Kia SUV which terminated on Bellport Avenue, North Bellport:-. He remained on Bellport Avenue with police vehicle Unit 514 and 515 after the vehicular fpursuit ended while OFFICERS JASON #5886 and KENNETH HAMILTON #2709 went into foot pursuit. While at the crash scene' on Bellport Avenue, -POLICE OFFICERS FRANCIS MUNSCH #5905 and later returned to the scene. 0 FICER NSCH hande knife and stated P.O. RICHARDSEN described the knife as being 4-5 inches in length, oo grain sides with a silver button. P.O. RICHARDSEN, put the knife on the hood of the 514 police responded icie at the direction of SERGEANT MICHAEL GUERRISI #1157 to complete the arrest paperwork on KEVIN TURNER. 3 While at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, he was advised by OFFICER DAVID HENDERSON #5614 that TURNER was sedated. He received the cell phone belonging to KEVIN TURNER from OFFICER HENDERSON at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. when he returned to the scene on Bellport Avenue, he put the cell phone he received from OFFICER HENDERSON under the front passenger seat of the Kia SUV. He also picked up a gray sweatshirt on the ground in front of Unit 514 and put it on the hood of the Unit 514. After Crime Scene finished processing the crash scene on Avenue, he put the gray sweatshirt in rear'of the interior of the Kia SUV. - He drove Unit 514 back to the Fifth Precinct: He recalled while he was westbound on Montauk Highway, something may have fell off the hood, possibly the knife he had_ placed on the hood. At the Fifth Precinct, he received a phone call from OFFICER about an hour later. OFFICER asked him if he had the knife. He advised that he didn't have the knife and that it fell off Unit 514 at Bellport Avenue and Montauk Highway. He suggested another officer could look for the knife.
