POLICIES AND PRACTICES During the 2020-21 school year, the Board, with the assistance of the Manitoba Catholic Schools Superintendent, shall commission a holistic review of school policies including progressive discipline, communication practices, safety and respect of students, including their environments and appropriate and safe personal boundaries. This review will be based on the concerning findings of Dr. Edmund’s report, with a commitment to update and improve the policies and practices. PROGRAMS & CURRICULUM The Principal shall, with the help of an external resource, proactively assess and review current education programs, curriculum, materials and resources such as formal classroom offerings and extra-curricular activities, library and music resources, SBDHS communications tools (i.e. website, school recruitment brochures, social media) to ensure it better reflects the SBDHS student population and Canada’s diversity. TRAINING The Principal, assisted by the Superintendent, shall seek out new training in conflict management, diversity and pluralism, power dynamics and effective responses to bullying, and respectful school environment/boundaries. This training should be required training for both the staff and administration. HIRING The Hiring Committee shall design a plan to improve efforts to seek, hire and train a greater diversity of teachers and administration so that the staff better reflects the diverse student population, and better reflects Canada. CELEBRATION AND RECOGNTION The Principal shall facilitate exercises with the staff, and professional development for the staff, to explore a variety of ways to acknowledge and celebrate the multicultural makeup of the SBDHS community and of Canadian society. The Principal shall research the development of imagery for the school that will reinforce an all-inclusive environment representing that we are all one before God. Apply imagery to the visual presentations within the school. BOARD GOALS The Board, with the assistance of the Superintendent, will develop a set of Board approved goals for the Principal to meet, that will promote a culture of respect, student safety, security, and wellbeing for staff and students.
