Ahmed, MPH, PhD  Environmental Health Officer and State Epidemiologist  Bureau of Epidemiology and Public Health Informatics  Curtis State Office Building  1000 SW Jackson St., Suite 330 Topeka, KS 66612-1365  Phone: (785) 296-6426 Fax: 1-877-427-7318  Email: Farah.Ahmed@ks.gov (Please note new email)  EpiHotline: 1-877-427-7317      From: Farah Ahmed [KDHE]   Sent: Monday, February 3, 2020 1:44 PM  To: Lee Norman [KDHE] ; Ashley D Goss [KDHE]   Cc: Sheri Tubach [KDHE] ; Lou Saadi [KDHE] ; Michael McNulty [KDHE]  ; Leo Henning [KDHE] ; N Myron Gunsalus, Jr [KDHE]  ; Ashley Jones‐Wisner [KDHE] ; Kristi Zears    Subject: 2019 novel coronavirus update: CDC update call 2‐3‐2020 1:00pm      Significant amount of disease in China, including human to human.     Limited human to human transmission in US (Illinois and California). Eleven cases so far (California and  Massachusetts most recent).     Expect to see more human to human transmission.     167 PUIs tested negative    RTPCR test being sent to IRR. After Emergency Use Authorization is announced, testing may be available at  private labs. CDC will be supporting the tests that go to state labs. Hoping to finalize RTPCR tests this week?    Accuracy of the test if very high in symptomatic individuals. But negative test in a symptomatic individuals (for  example people under quarantine) doesn't necessarily mean they are not infected.     8 On Friday, it was announced that passengers coming from China will be funnelled to one of eleven airports.  Those in Hubei Province within last 14 days will be recommended to be under quarantine. Need to coordinate  with state health departments. People come in through Immigration, if returning from China will be  transferred to secondary screening. Asymptomatic will get info sheet and sent on. Symptomatic will be sent  for more in depth screening. CDC will be capturing contact info from people coming in.     CDC working on guidance that outlines risk levels for contacts and what type of monitoring is recommended  (Interim Movement Guidance for asymptomatic people). Should be up on CDC website by the end of the day.  High risk: travel from Hubei Province last 14 days, medium risk: travel from China in last 14 days, etc. High risk  categories would be the quarantine category needing daily active monitoring of temp and symptoms and  travel controlled. Medium risk asked to stay at home, avoid congregate settings with active monitoring or self‐ monitoring and no travel.  CDC will send a daily message via EpiX to state health departments if they have  China travelers that will come to their state. Will also get notified about Hubei Province travelers. Guidance is  for travelers returning prospectively. CDC not able to let us know about travelers that have already come.  Recognize that there are issues because states are wanting to know about travelers that have already arrived  in country.     Expatriates will be brought back soon. California, Texas and Nebraska will receive expats. May be changes to  the locations. CDC has teams on the ground in these locations to coordinate. Coming from Hubei Province so  will be quarantined for 14 days.     Updated Interim Guidance for Infection Control in Healthcare Settings available on CDC site. Has info about  taking NP swabs and not having to do it in a negative pressure room. But important to keep patient masked  until ready to sample and healthcare staff should wear appropriate PPE.    Guidance in development for PPE/non pharmaceutical interventions. CDC working with hospitals and other  federal agencies to figure out what supplies are on hand and will use this information when developing their  guidance thinking about conservation of supplies.  Survey sent to Preparedness programs to get an inventory  of stockpile.     Monitoring and screening at seaports. Protocols in place for ill passengers to be referred for evaluation. CDC  not manning seaports because shortage on staff.     Farah S.
